Version 1.11.17?

Will the latest version available on Steam (Version 1.11.17) be uploaded here? I'm asking as it's stated here that "a-short-hike-windows-latest.zip" is "Version 1.10.1".

I have a similar concern, only I happened to purchase the game at gog.com, for which the version number is reported as 1.9.21, making it even older than the version that I now realise is carried by itch.io.

It is a little frustrating for those that would prefer to escape the clutches of Steam, in so far as one can never tell for which digital retail channels a given developer will be committed to delivering updates through. The only applicable rule of thumb seems to be: if it's available on Steam, expect not to receive updates in a timely fashion (if at all) elsewhere. I have no wish to use Steam but, even if I did, by having purchased it from gog.com, I cannot benefit from the use of  a Steam key either.

Wow. I forgot about making this post. Admittedly, being reminded about this is pretty disappointing. I expected Adam (the game dev) to respond, but I guess itch.io isn't worth the time anymore? Hmm... Maybe someday.

Hey, sorry I missed this thread. The Steam version is technically an update or two ahead, but the changes are to address some very specific issues for some specific people. Things like a foreign language font character adjustment for someone's fan-translation they are working on, or testing a new build of Unity that's required for the Xbox build. If any update was actually important or fixed bugs I would bring them to other store platforms! The changes would mostly never be noticed or even destabilize the game, so I wouldn't really push them unless necessary anyway.

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain, Adam! This makes a lot of sense. I want to support you here instead of Steam and GOG due to itch's better sales cut, yet - back then - the version jump seemed notable at a glance (and I have purchased other games on itch before that hadn't received the latest update ><' ) so I had to ask, but knowing this now makes the version jump negligible. Will be supporting you here! :D
