Ive joined the Pirate Jam that ended yesterday (january 31, 2025). The theme was you are the weapon, and for long I've been wanting to make a dc rpg game, and this jam was the best time to push that. Ive been using wizardry and dq1 as inspiration, but Ive also wanted to improve my null drawing skills, and I also wanted to be able to port the game to my Arduino Uno board.
Those decisions turn the game limits to be 120x96 pixels, 1 bit color, and with no real world/grid movement, it works based on XZ positions player position, player orientation and the sense of move if by animating the sprites. I though that to be cooler than a jump to next grid position and redraw the environment, but that also made me took to much time adjusting the animations and that too limited how far I could push world design for the game jam.
I want to keep improving the game, within its contrains so Im looking for opinions, suggestions, or ideas. As in my head I think is super cool, but Ive heard some opinions on things that I didnt expect.
Looking for your comments, and thanks in advance!
