when I downloaded the update it downloaded as a new app entirely and not as an update. How do I get my save file to transfer over so I don't have to start from the beginning again?

If you are using android then the answer is no body know. I remember Siren said something about some people have their saves automatically transfer other don't. If you use PC laptop etc then just open the help files
