Filter by Exclusion

Hi! I sometimes like browsing the top games while I'm at work (don't worry, not for a long time or anything lol) just to see what's popular, but most of the time the most popular games are horror games with imagery that I don't necessarily want on my screen at work (nothing raunchy of course, just spooky / stuff I don't want to have to explain to nosy co-workers). It would be great if I could choose tags and/or genres to exclude from the display list while still seeing any others!

I'm sorry in advance if this is already a feature and I just didn't see it, but that would really improve my browsing experience on Itch! I know I can filter by a specific genre or tag, but this is a request for the opposite feature.

Thanks! :)

It is a feature, but it's hidden, so you couldn't have seen it. I think you need to add ?exclude=tg.horror to the URL when browsing.

Aha! That's great to know, thanks!! I'd love this to be more widely known if not added to the UI, even if it was in an "Advanced search techniques" popup or something.

Is there a way to exclude multiple tags? I tried a couple of things but couldn't figure it out, if it's possible at all.

If there is, I'm not aware of it.

I have visited several sites in which prefixing a certain term (I believe even Google works this way, heck I even tried it and it appears to work that way) with a "-" it will count as an exclude. Is that present here on itch that you know off? If not, it could be a good idea to add it.

The "-" syntax would be a great way to implement that! So far as I know, it's not here now.

Tried it and the results I got show that the minus prefix definitely does not work....
