Hello! I am a brand new programmer / game maker, I have been studying how to make games for the past month and I feel I have what it takes to create a game. (i'm not amazing but I now know the basics)

but... I have "writers" block. I can't think of anything! I Have Ren'py and Unity and I do not mind making a game or a visual novel, I just want a project I can get behind and complete. Any ideas?

If you think you’ve learned enough to make a publishable game, I suggest to just wait, and don’t think about it. After a few weeks (perhaps days), I’m sure you’ll come up with an idea yourself, that you will like.

I've just thought of an idea last night and working on it, I was much less prepared as I thought and have run into so many barriers already but that's game developing

Yeah i agree gotta agree with mid here, although it doesnt hurt to get a few key words or maybe a genre combo from someone else, i'd say it has more potential if if its your own idea. That being said, good luck with it, even if it won't be the latest indie gem, there's loads to be learned by experimenting with different stuff, so don't give up. Excited to see what you might publish in the future :)
