Pixel Artist with skills at using GB Studio.

Was thinking of trying to join in on the #GBJAM but I’m mostly an artist with experience in Game Boy Studio (music is not my strong suit). I’d be glad to help anyone trying to make their own game who needs an artist or help testing it. Either reply to this message or send me a message on Twitter or Discord LynxIeles#7347

If you check my profile you can see the two games I’m working on. I can do old school pixel art in both side scroller and top down perspective, as well as cutscenes and basic animation.

Some recent examples of my pixel art that’s formatted for use on the Game Boy:

I would like to team up with you. Though i'm not good at music but, i have recently tried out GB studio and would like to learn new things from you.

I just joined a team but id be glad to answer any questions on gb studio. I have a TON of free time.

How would you go about making an overlay that shows stats or scores?

Overlays cannot be customized in either 1.2.1 or 2.0 beta

however you can use the same type of system as you use for menus if you want to be able to return to gameplay from where you left off (if it’s at the end of the level just remove the scene storing)

Scene: Store Current on stack Change scene: Score page (or stats page. these will need to be scenes.)

On the Score or Stats page do most of it on the background layer then you can use actors with numbers or letter grades by them to show the score. From there you can just Change Scene to the next area OR you can use the “Restore previous from stack” to go back to gameplay.

Thank you but one more question. How would you store scores like a high score and be able to hold multiple scores like a leader board.

I’m unsure because a new game would wipe it all out. Like normally if you can do a sort of new game plus you might be able to just save the scores in a set of variables. (which would take forever to code as using the options in gb studio to reset all the variables might just wipe out all saved scores.)

It would have to be programmed manually in C and I’m not quite capable of that myself yet.

It might be neat to have a devlog you can update when people send you high score screenshots.

Thank you for giving me answers to my questions as they were crucial to some game ideas that i had. And i hope that your game jam goes well.

Same to you! game devs need to stick together and help each other. we all just want to make things more fun for other people.
