THE GAME

Colorful Dino is a 2D Puzzle Platformer and Multiplayer game heavily inspired by the classic video games of the 90s.

The whole game features the original Dino character created by @ScissorMarks.

Assets re-coloring, further editing, effects, graphics, animations, musics, sounds and programming were made by the developer of the game: Luigi Piscopo.

I opened this thread with the aim of reaching more itch.io players that could be interested in the game.

There is still some work to do but I think we're pretty close to an Early Access release...

The Itch API is fully working and integrated in the game already!

The game will require an itch.io account for User Authentication and a Download Key in order to be played...

I count on Your Support guys in this way I will be able to bring more games and more Giavapps projects through itch.io!

DEVLOG - 008

In the last few weeks I've been working on:

  • Creating and designing the first stages.

  • Bug fixes and creating missing sounds.
  • Composing the music for the Title Screen.
  • Developing and designing the Title Screen with the full management of the main menu. This currently supports 1 Player and 2 Player modes and Character Selection for choosing the Color of your Dino (4 colors are available: Green, Yellow, Blue and Red).

  • Game Jolt Game API integration for online scores! You can now check the Scores page. As soon as the game ends or you lose the game the Game Jolt User Authentication begins. For more info about and how the authentication works you can read here.
  • Preparing the documentation for the upcoming Early Access release (there is still some work to do on this!).

VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO...

  • The Game Jolt's guys which are featuring my posts around... I really appreciate that!
  • The official game tester Nunjio for helping me testing the very first playable build of Colorful Dino game!

And that's it for now!

Get in touch on Discord to find out more!

Stay tuned!

DEVLOG - 009

After nearly 4 months of hard work and development I'm very proud to announce that Colorful Dino game is now in Early Access!

The game is available for download on the itch.io website at the following page:

https://giavapps.itch.io/colorful-dino

You can get Early Access to the game for a Very Small Fee and you will receive Free Updates!

The game currently has 8 Stages and is fully playable in both Single Player and Multiplayer modes!

But now let's talk about the latest features I included in the game.

In the last few weeks I've been able to manage the whole Continue Screen including the creation of the music for it. The trick I used here is I composed the track at 60 BPM (Beats Per Minute) to make sure the music is in sync with other sound effects I trigger directly in the game for the countdown.

If you would like to listen, I added the previews of the new tracks here.

However, I also included new cool game mechanics!

I was thinking about how to make the game more difficult as it was too easy for the Player to jump across all platforms and complete the Game Stage... so I came up with the idea of including a new feature: the Hidden Platforms! These special platforms can be collected only when one of the players obtains the Magnifier item.

And to make things even more complicated I also added support for the Spikes which can have different patterns and are always in sync with the game timer.

I also worked on adding various Documentation Pages you can find in the link I posted above and thanks to the precious feedback of @Nunjio (which I remind you he is the beta tester of the game)... I also added a new action to the player: you can use the combination Down + A (if you are playing with the Gamepad) or Down + Space (if you use the Keyboard) for quickly dropping the Player off the platform!

I hope you guys enjoyed the new features and the Early Access release.

And that's it for now!

And yes! Now you have it!

Colorful Dino (Demo) is now available for download on both Itch and Game Jolt websites!

Colorful Dino (Demo) includes:
  • Almost all the features you find in the main version but with a few substantial differences.
  • Support for Itch API for User Authentication so an itch.io account is still required in order to play the game, but you won't need a Download Key (for more info you can read here).
  • Support for Game Jolt Game API for saving Scores online (for more info you can read here).
  • 4 Stages to try out.

Now you can try the game and maybe consider buying the main version which you can find at:

And that's it for now!

DEVLOG - 011

The new version Colorful Dino v1.0.1 has just been released!

Let's see what's new...

  • 4 New Stages with a New Background! (These new stages won't be easy guys!)
  • The new Spring object which makes you jump higher!

  • The new dangerous Enemy that attacks with his bouncing dino Egg!

I remind you that you can find these new features in the main version of the game:

https://giavapps.itch.io/colorful-dino

With its 12 Stages, the game is now already challenging!

I still have to work on another update before the game is completed, so yes, you can still take advantage of the Early Access Promo!

And that's it for now!

Colorful Dino is now available on Android and distributed for FREE via Google Play!

Doing this port wasn't easy guys... I faced various difficulties such as:

  • Making the game work and look Pixel Perfect on any device resolution: the required minimum is 640x360 but the game could still be playable in lower resolutions too.
  • Rethinking the Input System to work in conjuction with the UI Controller Buttons used to control the Player on the device.
  • Designing a lot of icons for the APK, and make screenshots in different resolutions to meet all store requirements.
  • Integrate Google Play Game Services APIs...
  • And a lot more...

But... YES guys... I did it!

Now, let's talk a bit about what the differences are with the Desktop version of the game.

MOBILE VERSION

  • It is Free-To-Play, Ad-Supported and only supports 1 Player mode.
  • You have an Unlimited Number of Continues so you can play and have fun for as long as you want! You just have to watch an Ad in case you lose the game and decide to continue.
  • It has support for Google Play Game Services for saving Scores online so if you just cannot pass a level, let the countdown go to 0 when you are on the Continue Screen, this will take you to the Game Over Screen to save your score.
  • Includes Colorful UI Controller Buttons that will change color based on your Dino's color!

DESKTOP VERSION

  • It is Paid, Ad-Free and supports 1 Player and 2 Players modes.
  • You have a maximum of 3 Continues.
  • Includes support for Itch API for User Authentication and DRM (Digital Rights Management) system.
  • Includes support for Game Jolt Game API for saving Scores online.

There may be other differences but these are the main ones.

I really want to give everyone the opportunity to play the game!

I think that the Free-To-Play and Ad-Supported formula is a better compromise for everyone, especially in these tough times with COVID.

I did my best to put a Colorful Dino in your pocket...

If you have any issues with this specific version just let me know on Discord!

And that's it for now!

Enjoy!

Ngl, the red dino kinda sus... I think we should vote it out.

LOL Poor Red ... why? I think Red is very cool instead! Not my personal favourite, but let's just say it's my second favourite! ;)
