[bug] character portraits didn't survive the update to a new version

Linux 1.0a.

i was on an older version and updated to 1.0a. i had portraits that i chose myself for each of my 40 or so slaves. now in the new version those portraits are gone. i tried copying over folders from the old version (such as portrait, portraits and thumbnails) and it didn't work. is there a solution to this and maybe to the non-autogenerating portraits there as well?

i can't add a file.

interestingly, canon characters such as Maple or Zoe have their portraits intact along with their full body pictures.

if i go into portraits they show up (with no thumbnails apparently) and i can set them for a character.

PPPS: will overwriting my old saves ruin the possibility of recovering the portraits? i'm kind of half-stuck here.

also, correction, i have ~100 now

On the off chance that you had a bunch of Dark Elf or Drow slaves I'll link this mod which could help: https://itch.io/t/973991/transition-mod-for-using-v0525-saves-on-v10a  Otherwise, considering the number of slaves you have with problems, you may want to hold off on using this mod until we figure out your primary problem as using it may complicate things. Overwriting your save will only make things a tad bit trickier, as it will change the version of the save and the mod will not automatically try to fix the data. That can easily be overcome by editing the save file to revert the version number.

I am a bit concerned about your folder setup as changing versions of the game should not require any changes to locations of the "portraits", "bodies", and "thumbnails" folders. There is a strong possibility that that is related to your unique problem as you may have changed the path to the portrait files, thus rendering the saved paths invalid. It could also be due to one of the many changes to the file and folder code.

Creating a new save file may help to identify the cause of the issue as it will allow you to compare the paths to the portraits as listed in the save file. Specifically, you would assign the same portrait to a slave and create a new save file. Then the portrait path in the save with the unchanged portrait can be compared with the new save file. (edit: save files are plain text and can be opened with any text editor, they are JSON formatted so a JSON reader can be quite useful) Though given the amount of data in the save files, this can be quite tricky.

If you need help with the process of comparing the paths, then you can find me on the Strive Discord (https://itch.io/t/284398/discord), and we can share the save files through Discord.

i think my brain is tofu now
