Hello everyone & happy Friday! How have you been doing lately?
I felt like making a post since it's been over a month since the last one, and it might be a while yet before the next update/project comes out.
My current goal is to submit a project to AmalgamAsh's upcoming RPG Developer BAKIN Summer 2024 Jam, however I've been having trouble coming up with ideas (it's like the RETURNERS jam all over again 😓 though admittedly that kinda worked out in the end).
Hoping that creative block dissolves soon, so I can have a submission ready in time... 🤞
In other news, I started working on the next update for Someone Stole My PC! and actually made some progress, which was encouraging! 😁 If I'm able to maintain a good flow and complete that game, I'd like to do the same for Mort's Last Day Alive, since it's one of my favourite unfinished projects.

Great news concerning Someone Stole My PC, it was a really charming entry! Ooh, I haven't played Mort's Last Day Alive yet but if it's among your favorites, it must be good, I might try it soon then!

I was hoping you would, cuz I'm really interested to see what you make using Bakin... 👀 How much have you used the engine so far? As for me, I'll just be happy if I submit anything at all. 🤷♂️ You're right though. Just gotta stay focussed and get it done!
Thank you! Hopefully the game retains its charm in the future updates (so far so good I think). 😊 Yes, I'd appreciate that immensely! If you liked SSMPC, then I'm sure you'd like MLDA, too! It has more potential narratively than the majority of my games, and writing dialogue/storytelling is something I want to improve on.
At this point I mostly make these posts as an excuse to chat with ya. 🤪

Not too much actually, I did use it a bit when it came out but never made anything concrete with it (and it was mostly just mapping) so the eventing, the layout and camera tools are pretty new to me. How about you, are you a pro baker? And yes, same! Do you already have an idea for your game? Personnally I think I'm gonna keep things really simple for this one and make an RPG inspired by the first dragon quest/warrior (and it might include a side quest about finding a pancake recipe but shhh...🤫).
Ooh you have me even more interested about playing MLDA now, might try it today actually and gave you my really detailled and professionnal review afterward! The premise alone sounds really cool! Can't wait to see what other delicious games you'll create and to see how you'll improve your skills along the way👍

So far I've made 5 different projects in Bakin (The AmalgamPieninsula, The Easter Bunny Has A Problem!, The Labyrinth of Mushmush, RPS Battle System, & 2 Bees in a Pot) but I donno if that makes me a pro Bakin baker or not. 🤷♂️ Nope, no idea what to make right now... 😅 That sounds cool! And I highly approve of your pancake-oriented side quest. Maybe I need pancakes in my submission, too... 🤔

Ouh that's quite a bit actually, definitely a pro BAKIN baker in my eyes👏! Even more so that BAKIN feels, to me at least, a bit more complex than other similar engines. I'm sure the inspiration will come to you! I'm happy that you approve of my side quest, ô great Jason, the one and only pancake lord🙏🥞 And yes that would be cool, maybe even just a small easter egg!
MLDA was pretty great, I really enjoyed the exploration and the surreal elements!

Well, I guess I am a pro baker then! 👨🍳 I hope you're right, cuz I don't like being uninspired for too long! 😤 It doesn't take much to please this pancake lord... pancakes usually do the trick. Well, I'm thinking my game should be all about pancakes! Maybe it should be a pancake puzzle game? 🤔

That'd be cute! I'd love to make a Tamagotchi game like that. Pancakes are versatile indeed, which begs the question why I haven't made more games about them... 🤔 Occasional lapses in focus/patience is probably the main reason. 😓 I wish games were easier to make sometimes!
Yes, he's the bestest boi! If that model had more animations, it'd be fun to make a fetch minigame or something. Oh well. 🤷♂️ (though it might be kinda funny to have the dog run around without the correct animation anyway 🤭)

Haha, that would be so cool to make games just by imagining them, the process would be simpler, and maybe a bit more chaotic 😎
Oh yes, a game with a dog mini game is a 10/10, the rest of the game is just a bonus🐶 That's the problem with 3D models, it's harder to personalize or to add animations compared to pixel art for example (not that I'm good at pixel art).
Not really, I experimented a bit with the engine, ideas and stuff (and maybe reducing the scope I had in mind😁) but nothing too serious right now. How about you, are the ideas flowing?

Yes, I used to spend a lot of time taking care of my Tamagotchi (and cleaning up its poop 💩💩💩💩💩). I still have it too! 👾 Maybe you're right... pancakes are very important to me after all, so a game about them has to be just as good. 😋 That would be awesome! If imagining was all I needed to do, I'd make so many more games! And yes, they'd be more chaotic for sure. 😁
Maybe my jam game should be a game where you play fetch with a dog by throwing a pancake to him. 🥏 I'd love to be better at both pixel art and 3D modelling, but I'm too lazy to do either most of the time... so yeah, like you said, that makes it difficult. 😩
That's okay! We've still got time for now, so there's no need to rush. Reducing the scope is always helpful with jam submissions. No progress yet... I keep procrastinating and wondering if I'll even submit anything at this rate. 😓
