Hello~! If you haven't seen my Devlog from June or wondered why I didn't post an update for July, it was because I was on vacation!
Or more rather, I had some family trips to go on during a majority of July, then I came back home on the first week of August, and got sick and had to rest for the second week of August, then had other business I needed to tend to so it's not like I had time to do gamedev consistently. I got to play a bunch of games I’ve had my eyes on for a while, so I figured I would just treat both July and August as vacation from creating things. Taking breaks is always great for mental health reasons, and this time it was more from pertinent things in my life than me forcing a break on myself, so I feel pretty refreshed and ready to make things!
What are these things you speak of making? you may be asking. Well, it’s more of me taking more time on the long term games I’m making (like I Got Transported Into My How To Draw Manga Book!?), some updates for my older games, and artbooks. I also want to take some time to fully do some illustration art and graphic design that aren’t necessarily related to gamedev, so while I’ll keep on making these monthly devlogs regarding what I was able to do development wise, don’t expect to see too many updates about games.
Now to be clear, I’m not burnt out on game dev. If anything, I’m holding myself back from going all in on Spooktober VN Jam 2024 lol. I just want to focus more on art projects I want to do and they just aren’t really 100% related to gamedev, and well, you may have noticed I’m not the greatest at focusing on one single project. I may do some background art studies and character sprites and release what I make with a Creative Commons license, but no guarantees.
Speaking of which, I will be opening commissions for character art and logo designs relatively soon. With me wanting to focus on art this is the perfect time to open them up since it's been a while for me, but there’s another side to why I’m opening them: work has been cutting everyone’s hours, the jobhunt for a better dayjob is going incredibly dogshit awful (which is always a given, but still stings), and, well, I’d like more money to not only make sure my bills are paid, but to also help fund these larger games I’m working on because I’d like to hire some people and get a better drawing tablet because my beloved 6 year old tablet is giving the death flags orz.
I have a Ko-fi and Patreon if you like to follow either of them! Admittedly they're still being worked on as I figure out how to get them off the ground, but I would appreciate a follow if you can't toss money my way. My games are also Pay What You Want, but even if you can’t donate 5 star reviews are fantastic too!
That’s all I have for now! Oh, I should mention too that I released a postmortem for my recently released kinetic novel I’ll Be Home With You. Typically I bundle postmortems with my monthly devlogs, but since I was away at the time the game was released and was on vacation and a good portion of this devlog was about an entirely different subject, I decided to have them be two separate posts.
And again, if you like the games I make and the things I do, I truly would appreciate however you can help me keep doing this, be it following my socials for my art, leaving kind comments, follows on Ko-fi or Patreon, or spreading the word. I truly do appreciate it!
With that, I shall see you next month! I hope you all have a lovely day~!
