In the world of TheMetalCarrotDev, part 1

Hi all!

Something I've been considering lately is whether to pay a singer/musician to produce a song (and video recording for the song) for one of my specific games.

It'll be slightly expensive, and I don't expect I will fully make that money back. But I'm also willing to take a little bit of a loss if it means producing a good overall game and being able to reach people with it.

This particular game in question (You might be able to guess which game) still needs improvements, but I feel that an amazing song is just the pizzazz it needs for both the game and as part of the overall marketing message.

....Thoughts?

(I guess before making such a decision - I'd need some "talking out of" or "talking into" the idea.)

In a way, I think it'd be better where, if you have any budget for a game, to generally spend, spend, spend, on art. But doing what a lot of people do..... might not always lead to that unique marketing "hook", I figure.

I guess I'm just thinking more in the "long run" sense - asking myself, What are some things that build community for a game?

Well, these questions are what's currently on my mind. I also worry that if I start having too much fancy stuff in my game, that I will end up being seen as "too mainstream" to hang out with small time developers - and I don't feel real good about that, either. Doesn't feel good at all to me.

I'm sure that, as time progresses, I will know more about what direction to take.

Til next time!

I don't think the indie industry is about making simple games. You will be accepted in the industry one way or another. I do think you should hire someone, it will make you happy and that's simply what game development is about. Also, if you want me to do the song for free I can, but it probably won't be that good and will probably take me a while.

I appreciate the thoughts.

I think I'll hold the thought on who to do the song, on "standby" for a bit, until I figure more out.

But I do appreciate the offer.

It might still end up that I need your help in the future with something, though. Because your programming knowledge is really good. (Nothing specific I need help with right now, but the way things go... there will probably be a time where I'm asking people for help on Unity.)

I'd love to do a collab sometime in the future :D
