Hello, I have a question about the jam, does every gameplay have to be 20 seconds, or can you die in one round at like 10 seconds and then try again and die another time. But if you beat it, the game last 20 seconds. Thanks for reading!

20 seconds is a maximum not a minimum.

We’d like the game to not intentionally be shorter (like a single WarioWare minigame) but if the player can trigger a win or lose condition quicker than that it’s no problem

Thanks, because I'm close to done with Z20 and I was worried if I had to cancel it.

Can it have "perma-upgrades" so that the player can level-up but still have the 20 second 'run limit'?

We would consider such a game to be longer than 20 seconds. It’s not what we’re looking for but it wouldn’t get your game disqualified either.

The games that we’re disqualifying are entries that have nothing whatsoever to do with 20 seconds of time where it’s very questionable they were even made for our jam.

So you’ll be fine with that design if it what you really want to do, but we’d suggest exploring other ways to differentiate across playthroughs

I was just worried because it was an endless runner (until you die at 20 seconds), but I was making it so you can die, so thanks for clearing it up.

Okay thanks I wont bother with that idea.
