  • Hey there :). Nice infiltration game. It's not really my thing, but i enjoyed this one. Puzzles are fun, and it's not too hard to find the way out of this castle :). The story could have answer more question. In the end, we don't know why our character and his brother are throwned in this jail. Guards are a bit too easy to dodge, imo. And there is too much dark maze part, dealing with those are just annoying. Evading guard and resolving puzzles are more fun :). Thank for submission, see ya :). Drag.
  • I liked the layout of this game, other than the combination lock at the end I thought the pacing was pretty good, and having the guards hidden behind darkness made for some of the only truly successful jump scares I've witnessed in RPG Maker.

Project Freedom! Great stealth game! Let's get into my points! ^^

- First thing, if you find the game too difficult, there is an exploit you can easily do: deactivate the lighting effects in the options. Because the game is counting on the lighting effects to be an integral part of its game design, deactivating it makes the game much MUCH easier because you get to see guards coming by a mile away.

- It seems like the door requiring the four keys doesn't update the variable before making a check, but after. It forces the player to interact with the door twice for it to open.

- These labyrinths seems a bit empty. But I guess it's legitimate if, in universe, they are meant to prevent escapes. But in that case why hiding keys there? Isn't that problematic for the guards that need them? It seems a bit of work on the world-building is in order.

Other than that, I don't have much to say, it's a pretty solid and fun game. Probably one of the best game in competition.

Good luck for the Game Jam! ^^

I started out very confused about this game. Why was I suddenly thrown in jail? Why was I thrown extremely deeply in jail, why was I separated from my brother? Why was he tortured and starved and I was left alone and not even frisked? Why are these guards extremely bad at their job? Why am I so good at escaping? Why am I even important? The game left with me with far more questions than answers. I'd like to see this as a mini game in a bigger game, but here it felt far too large and with no real purpose.

Heya! Don't know if you saw this yet (been busy so I might have lost track), but we did a high level overview of your Game Jam entry last week. Here is a link to the video if you want to see what we have to say:

much appreciated! I have definitely taken the feedback fo heart because I know I should have cleaned up some of the stealth scripting, but was pressed for time so I didnt get to it. I have some ideas to expand the world based on your feedback so if I may ask a follow up question, would you like to see this game redone after this game jam, perhaps using non-RTP resources?

There is a ton of potential in this game. We both think that you all should absolutely redo it with resources that can fit your vision. :-)

Some of the puzzles are fun to explore and solve. I feel some of the stealth sections are held back by the limited field of vision as you sometimes can't see where the guards are. The torch does help a little, but it drags down the pace as you can't sprint with it.

I agree that the combo lock is a little bit cruel needing to backtrack the whole dungeon to search for clues (exacerbated  by the limited vision). Perhaps clues that can be found closer would be a bit more player-friendly eg number of swords on the wall in that previous large room?

While slightly frustrating in some areas, overall a solid entry! Good work!

Hey there, developer. We've been trying to get this game to load up in our browser (please see attached). Is there a local version for us to look at? We've been troubleshooting for about ten minutes, trying different browsers, and cannot get the game to run.

Developer(+1)

Very odd, neither myself or SkinnyWolf had any trouble loading it in browser right when I uploaded it. Try this instead?

The version you linked us works perfectly. Thank you so very much

This is overall a solid stealth/maze game. I just have a few issues:

  • You can just walk past the guards in the intro sequence and proceed on your merry way. Short story indeed! :-p
  • When you get caught by a guard, you go back to the beginning of the maze. This makes sense in the context of the story, but I have found that backtracking is SUPER FRUSTRATING, especially when it happens repeatedly.
  • The combination lock is frustrating. Move the clues to the beginning of the game so the player knows what to look for and not have to backtrack through the entire game and hope that they got all of the clues right. You might even consider doing a different set of clues, but that might be me being lazy, too.

Backtracking is really the biggest weakness here; without checkpoints, it means going over mazes that you have cleared multiple times, which gets old fast. The combination lock is what finally did it for me; while it could be argued that you could just save after each maze and reload after being caught for any other incident, having to go over the ENITRE game again, trying to avoid the guards, then hoping you've seen all of the clues. I quit the game at that point because it's not enjoyable.

Criticisms aside, this game is decently designed; the mazes aren't too long, finding items was fun and fair, and the story bits never overstayed their welcome. If you can find a way to reduce the backtracking and make the combination lock part less of a chore, you'll have an outstanding game!
