Hi all! It's day two of Ace Jam and that means work has begun on our project, with the working title of Autumn Leaves II (because I haven't thought up another name yet!). This is set to be the first game I've made in collaboration with a little team, instead of on my own, which is exciting and intimidating at the same time!
So, the game is a sequel to one done for a previous jam (Autumn Leaves). The two main characters, trans girl Autumn and generally-confused boy George (player character) get excluded for a week after getting into a fight with some school bullies, and grow closer over their days off. George is ace to some degree, though not very informed on the topic, and starts to come to terms with the definitions and reality of that by the end of the story.
It looks like we'll be using Ren'Py for the game engine, going with art from Rhino, with writing, voiceover & background audio from me (Freya @ communistsister), programming from lovejanedoe, and Ash (whose page, if they have one, I will link later :) ) handling some voiceover/extra art.
By day two, a rough roadmap of the plot has been drawn up, split into 5 days with Prologue/Epilogue. We've had discussion over how to lay it out - whether to have it like a usual VN style screen, or something more flexible, making mockups of ideas:
Also, Rhino has done some concept art for Autumn whilst we work out a visual design for her. Makign a sequel to a previous text-only game makes it surprisingly hard to settle on what a character actually looks like! But check out this cutie, Autumn version 0.1:
Aaaand that's it for now, because I have to finish drawing up horrible sketches storyboards. To everyone else participating this jam, hope you all have fun! See you soon!
