The rules are simple;

  • Make whatever you want, it doesn't even have to be a gamebook
  • You can start early if you want
  • You can work on existing/unfinished projects
  • You can work solo or with others
  • If you want the submission deadline extended, just ask
  • Don't be a jerk - bigotted, phobic, hurtful, hateful, and unkind stuff is all unwelcome.

If you have any Qs, ask below :)

I wish all rules were like these rules

This is so exciting! Thank you :)

Would it be OK to use some real life elements in the game? for example you need to go to websites, automated calling systems and social media to find hidden pass codes? Almost like a real life but still digital Easter hunt but the main gameplay would will be the GameBook.

I think it is fine, so long as those websites or other elements don鈥檛 have content that goes against the rules (is bigoted, hurtful, hateful, or unkind) or could expose players to any kind of danger.

It鈥檚 definitely an interesting idea worth exploring, where gamebooks meet ARGs perhaps?

To be clear: any kind of gameplay (or things that aren鈥檛 gameplay) is welcome, you don鈥檛 need to follow any gamebook conventions at all, just be considerate of your players/readers/audience :)

Very nice Sophie, I would participate but my english is not that good, but I hope to see the histories ppl will tell :-)

Host

you don鈥檛 need to write in English to participate, all languages are accepted :)

Ooh, have our dates changed? I thought this was just running through July.

Host

yeah, I extend the submission deadline whenever someone asks or whenever I feel like it :)

The best philosophy. :)

I just discovered this and I'm very excited to participate. Is there a rough word or page limit for this?

Host

There are no limits! You can write as much or as little as you want to :)

YAS
okay second question and hopefully final. I had started writing a twine story/game a long time ago (that will not be submitted it'll take me five years) where I was taking advantage of the digital format to store and track variables, changing the phrasing  or the situation a little depending on previous variables. Is that allowed for this jam or should I try to keep towards 'if this was printed it should be playable'? As near to classic gamebook as possible?

Host

That is absolutely fineand allowed, you can make any kind of thing you want to make :)
