I like the concept, but I had the feeling there wasn't much to do (but to be fair, I'm also bad in entertaining myself).
Nah, you're absolutely right. This was more of a technical AI challenge than a fun game tbh. It lacks conflict or resource management to add any level of game to it. Right now it's pretty much just a building tech demo for the AI. Natural next step, to make it more interesting, would have been stockpiles, resource gathering and building requiring tools and resources, but I only had at most an hour to spare every day and had to scope for that ;-) Had I not built the 3D world, which added quite a bit of complexity, I would have been able to add more game into it I think.
Fun game, nice graphics and music. The AI was functional, they only, even in the patched version, didn't seem to care about the abyss or what ever the black squares are and continously kept dying when i tried to build a wall to prevent them from going there. Even when they stood on the safe side, close to where i wanted to build, they sometimes tried to "go around" and landed in the abyss. Yeah, but that's just a bug - the game itself is fun, nice looking and original.
Thank you for playing! I think you're confusing abyss with multiple height layers, which the game certainly fails to inform the player about adequately. Try pressing +/- keys or using the scroll-wheel to move the camera between layers, or click on the portraits of your minions to focus on them (camera will focus on their position and the same layer they're at). It's a 3D world presented in layered 2d planes ala Dwarf Fortress ;-)
I accidentally replaced the original version of the game as itch.io auto-replaces old files if they have the same name. I fixed that by uploading the old version again, so the original (v0.01) is the version I uploaded within the deadline of the jam (05.05.2021) even though it says I uploaded it today.
