Track description | Creative process
Metroid Prime was almost an N64 game, but the director turned it down due to the controller's clunkiness. This demake track for Phendrana Drifts tries to imagine what an OST for that game might have sounded like!

I didn't have a whole lot of time to actually work on this bc of life, but I wanted to put something in anyways! I had a lot of fun---it was really interesting going through the metroid soundtrack and trying to find instruments of my own that sounded wintery and icy! Thanks for listening

I think you matched the N64 and ice level vibe pretty well, and the bass/bell combo definitely works. The mixing could be a little cleaner and the composition could be a little more fleshed out, but overall a solid track

I love the atmosphere and the N64 feeling this creates, thing you've got that down to a T!

I personally love N64 soundtracks - they were what originally got me interested in video game composition - and this definitely has the N64 feel down to a T! I like the bass vamp back and forth using the chromatic mediant giving a sense of motion without true resolution. The bell sounds certainly add a snowy feel, but the percussion was an interesting and unique element that I thought evoked an exotic almost barren feel that was unique from many of the other entries (made me think of music like Hazy Maze Cave from Super Mario 64 for example). It’s almost like this is the theme that you would hear in Phendrana Drifts if there weren’t any alien enemies around and if you were able to just explore the area without worrying about danger. I’m really glad you were able to submit this! Great work and thank you for sharing!
