Hello everyone! I made a video about game jam tips~
Summary:
- Theme Brainstorming | Mind-maps and Mashups can help find a theme idea quickly.
- Don't over scope | Don't be afraid to remove extra features.
- Do a web browser (WebGL in Unity) game | These get triple the plays/ratings/comments/feedback.
- Don't worry if you can't draw | Just work with simple shapes and nice color pallet/effects.
- Sound is a must | use http://www.drpetter.se/project_sfxr.html if you have no sound skills.
- To get meaningful comments you have to give meaningful comments. (spamming this forum or discord does not work)
- Sort games my Karma to see who actively is commenting/rating on others games
- Quality over quantity | During games jams people using only play a game for a few minutes, so pack the beginning with your best stuff.
In Brackey's last jam someone played peoples games and it was cool cuz I didn't get into Brackey's video but I got into the comment's video! So I wanna do the same to showcase some games that won't make it into Benbonks video~
So for this Jam I will pick some of my favorites and make a video about it! (I'll not look at the final ratings until after I record)
I'll try my best to play as many as possible!
I made a devlog for the jam! Updated game and my favorites video coming soon~
My favorites of the Jam :D
I could only play 80 entries and there were many good games! I chose the 9 that I had the most fun with :)
