A few days into the voting period I began working on an improved version of my game, originally with the intention of finishing it by the end of the voting period.
I received a ton of useful feedback over the last two weeks that I've been steadily incorporating into the game, along with a few ideas that I had but couldn't finish in time for the jam. And while the scope of the game has far exceeded something that I'll be able to finish by tomorrow, I think I have enough to at least upload a demo (if I can fix the sound system in time, I might have broken it while working on something else... whoops).
What have I added so far?
- Improved graphics, lighting, and animated backgrounds
- 3 new upgrades (bullet, radar, and battery) and a new shop
- 3 new powerups (shield, shotgun, and explosive shells)
- 1 new common enemy and a new unique enemy
- Improved seamines
- Improved viewport barriers
- A new save and reset system (this is probably the biggest change, which is ironic considering the player never sees it, but it's made the game so much easier to work on)
- Lots of bug fixes
What's to come?
- Way more enemies
- New environments and possibly a short campaign
- Boss fights (hopefully, if I can get them working - it all hinges on godot's skeleton system)
- Improved sound
- Improved UI
- Autofire (I might be able to squeeze this one in before the demo)
- Improved web stability (I tried having this ready for tomorrow and almost broke the game completely, I'm not a good programmer)
- Lots of bug fixes
Although I don't want to spend too long working on this, I'm considering starting a devlog so anyone who's interested can keep track of the game's progress.
Thank you to everyone who played the jam version of the game.
Here's some side-by-side screenshots of the jam version and new version (and sorry they aren't properly centered):
