Although I found this gamejam just yesterday, the theme pulled me in.

I always loved playing with design, so "Holes" triggered some ideas that I considered before just on my own. This could either be a benefit or detriment, but I didn't have time to ponder too long as I already joined late.

To be frank, I don't know how long I can keep on creating, so I'm treating this last platformer as a comprehensive wrap of my other work.

With that said, let me list some stuff here for my sake.

Completed work:

- Basic walk animation (from previous work)

- Assets for opening scene

- 2 platform mechanics

ToDo

- Running section (I've done this in a previous project)

- Music (I do have something in mind)

- Cutscene art (started on some)

- 1 more platform mechanic

- Dialogue (Outline done)

- Ending cutscene

This is a lot. However, I do want to put in a lot, for this could possibly be my last personal project for a while.
Good luck everyone! I know I'm gonna need it. :PPP

Less than 3 days remaining. Egads.

Knowing from past experiences with compiling, I know I'll need to try to finish things by tomorrow.

ToDo

- Running section

- Music

- Sound Effects

- Cutscene art

- 1 more platform mechanic

- Dialogue

Now my structure is similar to that of my first gamejam game, so I hope people play it long enough to chase the "boss".

Otherwise, seems like most of my remaining tasks are graphical. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day!

Hoo, it's almost the final day.

I'll be frank, I don't even read back while I type these late at night, so apologies for the pretzel-knots in my grammar.

I've completed the art for the menu/intro, yet I have the gameplay intro and ending cutscene left to go.

I started putting in sound effects but probably would need to change them. Most of the game play has been done, and now I just need to wrap things up with music and art.

O, music. Lemme spill a few beans here.

I used to have a track years ago where I had a few simple arpeggios, but you could reverse them and the song wouldn't sound completely like demon-speak.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8beX8zoFQo here we go, so with a game where the player jumps into dimensional holes to flip the world's contrast back and forth, I'd thought it would be cute to have the music get reversed in the negative world.

Firstly, I repeated this song in FL studio, but the arpeggios weren't gonna cut it.

I looked around to find some palindromic chord progressions. The melody I wrote didn't end up completely recognizable in my opinion, so I wrote in a last verse that plays the melody in a reversed order. I'd love to improve this some other time, but with just a day left, I should think of my priorities.

ToDo

- Gameplay intro

- Intro music

- Boss music

- Ending cutscene and music

As mentioned before, I'm treating this like a chapter ending because I may not be able to work on independent projects for a while. So after this is done, I want to share my small journey I had over my previous projects.

Have fun yall!

It looks really stylish!  It's a shame you can't work on personal things for awhile.  Put everything you got into this!

I am attempting to build the project as I type this.

We can make updates before the deadline even after we submit our projects right?

If that's the case, I'll throw out something tonight. Sorry for the lack of videos and gifs in my progress. They just weigh so much on my potato computer.

There are a few smaller issues I want to fix, but at least they're not game-breaking. Gosh I hope they're not game-breaking.

These include: a singular only one sound effect that always fails to get triggered, applying a little squash and stretch when jumping, and hmm. idk

But whenever I do post it, please leave any feedback, constructive or destructive. This is my technically my third jam, second time going solo, and every time, the most I learned didn't come from making the game but rather sharing comments.

I must admit, it was hard for me to keep regular updates on social media and forums like these after missing the first whole day of the jam, but I hope to really socialize with yall in the coming weeks. There have been so many cool projects I've glanced on the site already, and I look forward to playing them all with yall!

Speaking of social media, I was was able to post a mistake I made on twitter.

I'm not sure if that worked. It didn't work, so there's link instead. Anyways, see yall! :PPP

Alright, noticed some weird stuff with WebGL, so i made some quick fixes.

So far, it seems like fullscreen is the way to go because the windowed version on webGL just seem to cut some edges.

I'll be posting other builds soon as well. You can check it out at https://nightworks.itch.io/guesstalt !

I think I'll just leave the project as is. I've put in executables for Windows and iOS, but I wouldn't know how the latter looks. Hopefully most people can access it through WebGL. https://nightworks.itch.io/guesstalt

By the way, the WebGL version made me go through a few changes, and while fixing those issues as well as fixing the UI, I didn't end up implementing some more polish as I wanted to. I always found that nearly one day should be dedicated just for building and fixing stuff according to the builds.

I don't know, is this the time when I go back to explain why I wrote a backwards song and how I came to include characters from my past projects? nah, I'll write that in the Devlogs of the game and probably after the ratings if I can.

I've been going through, playing a lot of submissions, and y'all rock! Also best of luck to all those that are wrapping up!
