a well made little shmup that I think could benefit from some polish! The bullet patterns are good, it's nice and easy to get in to, but I think if you made a few adjustments it would really shine. In no particular order:

  • get rid of inertia on the player movement completely πŸ˜‚ it has been said in the other comments, but I'll repeat it to drive the point home.
  • speed up the player movement around 2x
  • some of the enemies didn't stand out against the background too well, not a huge issue but definitely something to look at
  • speed up the player bullet movement speed 5x. Seriously. Make it shoot fast. And make the bullets bigger! And add some variation on the sound, even just adjust the pitch a little every time you shoot. And make the "shoot" sound effect more bassy (literally just drop into Audacity and bass boost it!!)
  • reduce enemy health, and add more popcorn. Popcorn should die in 1 hit!

These are all things that will take the game from "decent" to "great" I think!

I particularly loved the fact that you got a proper menu implemented, and audio/sound effects. A lot of people miss that off in jam games, so it's always nice to play something that feels like a real game ;)

Well made classic formula,

i like the dedicated hud area on the right to have nothing in the way of the gameplay view and the background looks really good i also like that you have those complex patterns typical of the genre but that the bullets don't go so insanely fast that you have more time to react and plan your dodging route

some tiny quirks though, i'm gonna agree whith what's already been said here that the ship movement may be just a bit too floaty and that some of the base enemies may be a bit too tanky, nothing a bit of tweaking can fix so it's no big deal really, so other than that i's all ok by my book, and especially if it's your second jam ever like said on the page.

Just one question cause i don't think i've seen it explain in game or on the page, or i might have missed it (in that case my bad and just ignore) are the "p" icons just items that add to the score or are they some kind of powerup to your shot once you collect enough ?

Anyway congrats and well done :)

Nice to see another straight-up shmup here! Only complaints would be that the ship has a ton of inertia, making it really feel really floaty and hard to move in opposite directions, and that some of the popcorn enemies feel a little too tanky.

I liked the game a lot! Gave me nice chill vibes with the music and tropical-looking islands. I'm not sure what it was, but the player bullet firing sound effect really appealed to me.

Great work!

This game is really cool, the patterns are really neat and the fact that you pursued the traditional bullet hell genre of older games (but with a 3D style) is awesome. I just hope that this gets more recognition, it is a good game.
