Hey everyone!
So to submit a project to the Charge Creation Jam, you need to make an actual itch.io product page for it!
If you've never done that before, here's a quick tutorial on how to do it:
Disclaimer: I'm using the word game all throughout this tutorial, but the same applies for other supplements you want to distribute on itch.
- Assuming you're logged in with your account, click on the 馃斀 icon at the top right corner of the screen.
- Then select Dashboard
- On the left side, you will see a red button that says Create new project, click on it.
- Enter the title of your project
- Itch will automatically generate the slug for the project URL, but if you don't like it you can modify it yourself. I usually like the project URLs of my game to be-written-line-this (AKA this is called kebab-case)
- Enter a short description for your game. Write something catchy for it might be one of the first thing people read when seeing your work.
- Pick an image for your project. If you don't have one, go to https://www.canva.com/ and make one that uses the dimension 630 x 500 pixels.
- Below the image field, you can upload screenshots. If you have some at your disposition, add them to showcase a small preview of what your game is about and what it looks like.
- For the classification, select "Physical Games"
- Leave the kind of project to "Downloadable" which is the default value.
- Then there's the release status. If you're still working on your game, put "In Development", otherwise you can select "Released"
- That will not affect if your page is live or not. There's another setting for this at the bottom of the page.
- For the pricing of the page, we suggest to either select "0 or donate" or "paid". You made something cool, be proud of your work.
- If you have any files to upload, click on the Upload files button to upload them.
- There are a lot of setting for uploaded files. You can change their individual pricing, change their display name, etc.
- For the type of file, I like to select Book for a game and Graphical Assets for images
- Fun fact, if you re-upload a file with the same file name, itch.io will try to match with the ones already existing. This is SUPER useful if you are interested in knowing how many times each file has been downloaded.
- The Details section of your game is very important. We recommend that you put the bulk of what your game is about inside that rich text editor. Try to split it into multiple sections using "Heading 2" (paragraph options are available in the toolbar of the rich text editor.
- Make the first couple of lines the pitch for your game.
- Explain what your game is about.
- Include a section talking about the different features your game has to offer.
- You can also include the Powered by Charge / Compatible with Charge logos available on the Charge SRD page: https://fari-rpgs.itch.io/charge-srd
- When is doubt, check-out the following pages
- For the Tags, itch says not to include the same thing as in your title or description, so try to think of a couple of tags you think represent your game.
- We recommend you at least add the following: powered-by-charge, compatible-with-charge, charge-creation-jam
- There's a field called Custom Noun. Itch will use this when reffering to your "product" on their website or inside emails. If you're making an extra, you can put down extra or even charge extra or something like this. For Charge, I used tabletop rpg
- In the Community section, I suggest you select the Comments option. Discussion boards are useful for Charge because they act like a forum, but if you don't expect to have lots of "forum-like" posts, comments is better because it lets people quickly write down why your game is cool!
- Lastly, the Visibility and access section is that tell itch if your game is live or not.
- If you select draft, only you can see the page
- If you select restricted, you can protect your page with a password or give product keys so that a select group of people can access it (useful when you want to get feedback on your page before it goes live)
- If you select public, that's it! Your page is live! But by doing this, you're also telling itch that your game is ready. Which means, it will send an email to all of your followers. ONLY select this if you're absolutely sure your game is finished.
- Click Save at the bottom of the page and then click on View Page just beside it.

Congratulations! You've made a fantastic itch page! Now the last part is to update the theme of your page. At the top of the page, there's a grey toolbar with a button that says edit theme. From there, you can edit multiple properties to make your page look prettier.
A couple of things about themes
- If you want to use custom font, you can select a fancy font for your headings, but leave the body font clean and readable for accessibility purposes.
- For the colors, try to leave the background of your game white and the color of the text black. Again, for accessibility purposes, putting something like red text on a green background is really hard to read and enjoy.
- If you're making an extra and want the page to look like Charge, you can use the Oswald heading font and the Inter body font.
- For more customization, check-out the Easy Releasy page, which goes over lots of topics to make a pretty itch page. https://jannikboysen.itch.io/easy-releasy
I hope that was useful, and enjoy the rest of the jam!
