Hello to all Dogecoin Game Jam participants. In this post I want to share progress of our current game called "A Doge's Tale" which was in development for 4 days now.  But firstly, let me introduce myself and my project.

Actually we are team of three people (Programmer guy - Me,  Graphics designer and Voice actor). Our studio name is 'Entroplay Studio' and I am total beginner in this area. I have been doing Web development for 3 years before that and switched to game development (and because I know basics of programming already, its easy for me to understand everything and learn quicker). For our project we are using Unity, Blender and Mixamo for animations. Right now project is very raw but we hope at the end we will create something really cool. Game itself is about Dogecoin history which will have some mini-games and cut-scenes with story telling or something like that :)

Day 0 Idea

First we had to come up with idea... and idea was to create game that will tell about Dogecoin history and remark some of it memorable moments. We used Notion to write down game design document and used Trello to make to do list etc. On the next day after we came up with idea we started development. Let's see how it went.

Day 1 of development

As a programmer I started developing third person controller while graphics designer was making 3d models for our game. I created this controller using Character controller and cine-machine camera, with gravity and coin pickup system. We will have a little platformer at the beginning.

Next thing I did is started scripting one of our mini games. Its NASCAR racing game. I used path creator script from Asset Store and made car follow path. I also added some AI cars that change their position every 3 second or so... Also if you hit car your score will be reduced and speed will go down. You can change speed with W and S and rotate with A and D. Coins are spawned randomly. Car are also made by graphics designer and we will also add detail to our levels.

That is all I could do on first day (it was 25 February).

Day 2 of development

Graphics designer created some models and I set them up in unity with animations from Mixamo.  So this is how our game looked like.

Haha... I love this chad doge ðŸ˜‹

Day 3 of development

On third day I started working on another mini game which is bobsled. I got models from Graphics designer and made this controller for bobsled.  Track will come later on...

Right now I made coins spawn and also I want to make some barriers to avoid but I don't know if I have time.

Conclusion

This is game we are working on right now. I haven't showed you all of the stuff and maybe right now you don't understand whats happening but we want to blend game together with some cut-scenes and add sounds and voice to explain what is happening haha. Going to work on it now ðŸ˜‰

This game jam is our first and it is a lot of fun I'd say and I am looking forward to play games from other developers as well. Good luck everyone! ðŸ’ª

Day 4 of development

Hey, designer here taking over the devlog! So we've been so busy developing that we haven't been posting updates, but im here to make it up to yall! On the 4th day, the programmer made a the bobsled game full physics based and started making cutscenes, our amazing voice actor ImpliedLies delivered some voiceover tracks, which the programmer got to put into cutscenes and gameplay of the first minigame, and I made lots of models including the bobsled and nascar track and a whole new level in the jungle. The mood is good as one might say, and were feeling pretty confident we can finish most of this thing on time.

Day 5 of development

The programmer has made the jungle level where you have to carry water to a village in a certain amount of time, else it melts in the hot sun. He has also been very busy at making cutscenes for all levels, and including sfx and narration. Our beloved voice actor and dialogue writer finished all of his work and definitely deserves a DOGE tip (which I am waiting to give him when my wallet finishes syncing haha). I finished all rough dialogue scripts and gave them to the narrator to perfect, finished some models and am currently working on finishing all scene environments. Were not so confident on time anymore since we still have a lot to do gameplay wise and we planned the last day purely on gametesting and fixing bugs, but since most of the minigames are in (mostly) working order, the outcome should be pretty good.

Here are some screenshots:

In conclusion of day 4 and 5, we still have a lot to grind, but our efforts are beginning to bear fruit.

You can find our socials and DOGE donation link above it the previous devlog.

So as always, best of luck to all the other devs with completing your game, very exited to try them all out!

FINAL DEVLOG:

Its been a fun but also very hard week of constant work on this game, and finally its published! The published version does have a few issues with it, mainly some fps and jumping related bugs, but well try to fix them as well! All in all, looking at all the submissions, the games are all very cool and its really nice to see people trying their best and learning new things in this jam! I encourage everyone to check out and rate our game (aswell as all the other submissions):

Note: if you encounter buggy jumping, try jumping first and then moving with arrow keys, makes it much easier!

Thanks for feedback🤘! Well, we actually are dev loging for the first time, but I will give you one tip - As soon as you've done something, just take screenshot or gif and save it, and if needed write down a little description of each image, so you can remember what was done ✅. Everyone starts from somewhere 🙂
