Folklore elements too subtle?

I made a game that I'll submit here and to the One Page RPG Jam today.  This is the first game I've ever finished. The folklore element that inspired me is the ambiguity of the word "Hortlak", which is a word for all kinds of undead creatures corporeal or not.  In my game, the undead thing has two forms, corporeal and incorporeal. Also the theme is based on how the Turkish ghost stories involve people encountering their dead relatives. However, I do not reference these sources of inspiration within the limited space I have, and the game looks just generically spooky (which I'm fine with). Am I upsetting the Jam's conventions at all?

Speaking for myself, I don’t think there’s anything to be gained by putting up barriers around how much/how explicitly a game references folklore. I think as long as there are folklore elements that you reference or that are in some way important to the game, and as long as you respect the rule of only writing about folklore that you are in some way part of, and not appropriating other peoples’ culture, then you are absolutely fine!

Thank you for your reply.

I believe we're going at folklore from a pretty broad perspective. So urban folklore is allowed, and that can encompass a whole lot of things. Have fun and I look forward to seeing your game!
