Hi  Nawwa,

I think the answer to that depends on what kind of experience the individual already has. If you're comfortable sharing what programming languages you know (or would like to learn!), I'll bet we can come up with a few great suggestions for game engines, tutorials and/or other resources  that will be useful to you :)

Cheers,

Honestly, I think if you're into RPGs, then RPG Maker is a really great engine, with lots of plugins avaiable for free. The layout of the program is totally friendly and you don't need to code anything. For beginners, I think this is the thing that makes diference.
If you're into something with more control, with light coding but still something easy, then I would sugest you try Gamemaker. There's a lot of templates you can buy and learn from them. Hope that helps.

Hey, I'm a newbie to game development too. I really like using Java so I found Greenfoot and LibGDX to be proficient for starters. There is also a MOOC for LibGDX by Amazon on Udacity if you'd like to check that out. Apart from that, I'm also going to try out ink for text-adventure games.
