This game has a really cool concept!

A couple things that would have made it a bit better -

Instead of each level being randomly generated, having a couple pre-set tutorial levels to introduce players to each type of reflection.

Also, a way to flag locations on the board that you're keeping an eye on, before you're ready to place your actual guesses. Similar to how in minesweeper, you can place down flags to remind yourself of where you know the bombs are, or how in sudoku games there's usually an option to note two possible numbers in the corner of a blank space.

really cool idea. had to tap into a higher part of my brain to understand how to access the game, but was pretty cool

Haha, thanks man, glad you liked it, cheers for trying it out!
I had a couple friends play it as well and realized that it was pretty hard to grasp at first without any introduction or tutorial, especially if you have never played, seen or even heard of the original game ;). It's become more of a prototype than a game, but I'm very much enjoying the outcome :).

EDIT: Added readme (https://github.com/gurki/ardo-js/blob/master/README.md) to the game page, which would have been helpful in the first place ... :sweat-smile:

I downloaded the files, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get the game to run. At first, it complained that it couldn't access scripts, so I set up a local server to open the files. Even after fixing that, I got this error: "Tone.js:1 The AudioContext was not allowed to start. It must be resumed (or created) after a user gesture on the page," which probably means you're trying to autoplay sounds before getting user input which the browser does not like. I'd love to play the game, but it doesn't seem possible for others to experience it in its current state.

Hi there! Thanks a bunch for trying, appreciate it. And sorry to hear your struggles. The audio context initializes after the first manual user event, so a simple mouse click anywhere should suffice to get going.

I'm also hosting it on my server and you can check it out right here: https://ardo.tbsgrdn.de/

Cheers and have fun! Curious to hear how it went :).

Finally came back to this. It was interesting for sure. Even after going through the README, I don't know if I fully got it, but I did play around with navigating around the board and just listening to my voice echoing. Definitely different than most things in this jam, so it was neat.

What OS is the download for?

Developer

Hi there! It's a simple html you can open in most browsers (try chrome) on most OS. Wasn't able to get it to present natively in itch.io for some reason :/. Thanks for checking it out, have fun! :)
