We took it literally and decided to create a game where the Moon is sentient and you need to kill it.

Really beautiful pixelart and the game has an awesome feel! I like that the difficulty is balanced and so its not too easy to play :)

I think this is already very polished, but if you’d like to do some more polishing, maybe you can swap your UI elements to be in-line with your pixel art style.

Eg. Maybe use pixel fonts: https://fontmeme.com/fonts/pixel-square-font/ and maybe a pixel health bar?

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the suggestions. We'll definitely keep it in mind for the next one.

Nice shoot'em up! Alien ships look awesome, also the music. And the heat is a mechanic I'm not used to see in this kind of games, but feels right. Good game, congrats!

Developer

That's awesome! Glad you enjoyed the overheat mechanic.

I enjoyed it a lot! I have to admit the "loading" weapon mecanic become a bit frustrating against the final boss, but overall it was super fun

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it!

Wow! Really cool shoot’em up! I truly enjoyed the whole experience! The controls feel great, superb music and beautiful pixel art.

Amazing job!

Thank you for playing and glad you enjoyed it!

Great game, i loved the boss, the art and the sound, and the gameplay is fluid. Congrats in make a fun game!

Developer

Thanks for playing the game, glad you had fun!!

This was fun to play through. I agree that mapping the shoot button to the mouse felt a little odd, but overall it was well polished

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it!

I think I would have chosen another button for firing when not using a gamepad. Using the mouse button to fire makes me feel like I should be using the cursor for aiming. However, the polish is super good on this game. Everything from the "Level X" at the beginning to the victory tune after completing a level. In fact, the sound design is really strong with this one. The game feels really alive because of it. The different music tracks, the victory tune, sound when you connect a hit on enemies... Feels very good. Well done!

Developer

Appreciate the comment! Really means a lot.

Much better than I expected! The intro sets the tone perfectly and made me invested in the mission. The music and sfxs were good picks and got me excited to shoot alien ships.
The art's inconsistent, but I understand it's hard getting assets from different sources that go well together. Those explosion animations were a really good choice, though.
I liked the final boss too. I think it's the right amount of challenge. I had fun :)
PS: With no Moon we're most definitely doomed even if the alien threat is no more :|

Dude, it was them or us.

Definitely fun. It was super satisfying to watch something explode. Even if it was myself.

Developer

High praise that even dying is satisfying!

Really fun! The soundtrack was awesome and had me headbanging in tune with the rhythm a little bit haha. The ship control felt nice, decent movement speed and fire rate.

I wish you could fire with the spacebar though, I played on a laptop with a trackpad and it was a little awkward hand positioning for me. But the shooting felt really satisfying especially thanks to the sounds effects.

The difficulty progression was nice. The first boss was really easy (you can just stay in the middle of the screen and he can't hit you) but it bumps up nicely in level 2 and again in 3 (i died in 3). The attack patterns good and had me moving around quite a bit which is just how I like my shmups. The gun meter to prevent spamming was also a good touch!

Great game overall, I enjoyed it!

Developer

I'm glad you liked it! Using the spacebar for shooting is good feedback. I preferred the gamepad and don't typically use keyboard for games, so I didn't think about the difficulty of using a trackpad -- that's good to keep in mind for our next game. If you like shmups, definitely try to get past the 3rd level. The 4th level only contains the final boss -- which is completely unique -- and I think you'd enjoy it. ;)

You were right, that was a fun fight! I lost after destroying the bottom 2 guns but I love how the boss fight was totally unique and had such a different vibe. If there was a retry option I would definitely keep trying to beat it. :) Thanks for getting me to see that stage glad I played it.

Developer

When you lose, there is a Restart option which lets you retry the level you just lost. Maybe we should have named that menu option something different so that it was more obvious...

Submitted(+1)

Ah, I thought that would start me over from level 1 so I didn't press it. Maybe you can label it "Retry Level"

Fun game! I like the concept of the moons coming to life and having to face off against them. The limitation on the weapon was also interesting, and the challenge felt like it scaled appropriately.

Developer

Glad you liked it and good to know that it scaled well.

Solid game :) I’ve got the tune in my head, and the graphics all fitted together to make a fun experience. The ‘overheating’ gun mechanic was a clever one; made me work a little harder than my traditional approach to these games which is just holding down fire :D

Developer

Thanks for playing! Awesome that you liked the overheating mechanic. With the minigun, we wanted players to have to be strategic in how they used their ammo. Also, finding open art that meshed well together was a challenge in itself, so I'm glad it worked out.

Those musics !!!

Developer

Yes, we loved the music. Check out the credits on our game page for all the music we used.

Very nice graphics, music and sound effect! It reminded me of r-type.

You can add some animation to the ship movements and some particle effects to improve the game feel, but overall it's fun to play already :-)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! R-Type was definitely an inspiration. Glad you enjoyed it!

Awesome music, I'm super bad at these games, but I had a lot of fun. It would have been nice if the regular enemies were more moon themed or something, but they looked cool.

Developer

Thanks for playing. I'm glad you found it fun!

I beat it on my first run!!!!!!! I may have had only like 1 HP left by the end of it, but I did it! I don't know what the genre of game is called, it might be bullet hell? Whatever it is, your take on it was really fun.

Developer

That's awesome that you beat it first try! Yeah, this genre is probably somewhere along the spectrum of shoot-em-up (shmup) and bullet hell. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted(+1)

It’s a fun game! Very reminiscent of old arcade games. Music was great! I wish there was someway to regain health, but can understand reasons not to as a game choice!

Developer

Awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted(+1)

Very solid game! Had a great time playing this and eventually gave up after the moon pounded me 5 times in a row :-D Particularly enjoyed the beethoven moonlight sonata against the moon

Developer

Yeah, the final boss can be tough. Thanks for giving it a try!
