No open-source requirement this year for the game?

Heya, I remember, last year, there was a note in the jam rules, that we should make our game open source, so others can learn from it.

This requirement is gone this year?

I ask, because I have the choice to connect the game to my api/server for cloud-highscores, but if I do that, I can not make it open source as the api-secret would be published then.

So for me this is quite an important question

Thanks for info!

I can't answer the question about the open source requirement, but wouldn't you be able to publish the source without including the api-key?

in theory yes, but then nobody could make it run, so it would be a pure “read” repo - don’t know if that would make any sense, cause no one could set a breakpoint and look into, how it’s done. i don’t have an “anonymous public just try it” key for my api, but i am working on such a system. So the api would accept the connection, but it wouldn’t commit anything sent.

Source isn't required this year.
