Why announce the theme before start?

People are just going to cheat since nothing is stopping you from already working on the game (before the official start), because the theme is already known anyway

Especially when there is the $250 incentive to cheat for money

Thank you for this.. as I have announced it already I feel obligated to keep it for this Jam, but an important lesson learnt for the future.

Sometimes jams have a main theme which is announced before the start and a secondary theme which is announced when the jam starts. You don't have to do this but it is a good option if you're concerned about cheating.

Yeah I agree, people are probably gonna cheat, which is a big turn off for me.

yes exactly

Would people feel more comfortable if I took Jordan's advice and included a secondary theme at the beginning of the Jam?

Notice! In response to the feedback by those above, we'll be announcing a secondary theme on Saturday :-)
