Took me a while to understand what was going on but once i got the hang of the controls i had a lot of fun, 80's arcade game feel to it, one the game could use is to somehow tell the player they ran out of lives because when you do it right now the character just gets stuck and you are not able to do anything, but this feels like the game glitched or something until you look at the lives counter. Solid game.
Thanks and yea I do wish that I did make an end game sign pop up at zero life (I do like how the game freezes the controls but I agree it does feel like glitchy and end game sign in front that would have helped). Also I was really interested in your game (based on the discord pics), but I have a Mac so i couldn't play it :( .
At first it was difficult to understand how to play, but then it made sense, and it's a neat little game! Somehow I managed to get stuck a few times. None of the keys did anything.
Thanks. Also, you get locked out of controlling/scoring when you hit zero life, if I could change only one thing about the game it would have been to make the that more clear. I like the acetic of games that freeze when you loose (plus I was also running out of time for the jam and just want to make sure I had something that worked), but I think a big GAME OVER in the front of the frozen game would have made it clearer what was going on.
The idea is really good but the way it play feels a bit akward and is sometimes hard to understand (it's a problem when you make a loop with lader, you don't know where you are on the loop)
but it's still impressive for a jam game, congrats !
Thanks, and yea I agree with it being awkward once the ladder rotates. It was one of those things that made sense in my head, but in practice it turned out to be needlessly confusing.
It took me some time to understand a bit how the controls/game worked but couldn't master it. I was expecting to lose at some point but the game keeps running forever but input is blocked, not sure if I have to restart the page to restart playing.
The reason I did the controls like that was to always have the down arrow be delete. If I was to remake the game from the start, I would probably have made the buttons R, Y, V, N (i.e. R always goes left up, Y always goes right up, V always goes left down, N always goes down ) and have delete ladder just be its own key. I ran out of time to make a game over screen, so locking the player out of controls and scoring was my comprise because you can still see the score you get. You are also right that the game can only be restarted if you reload the page (also done because I ran out of time).
This was a really neat puzzle/arcade game :3
