I'm not done trying to do good things for the community, so I want to start this topic. I'm know other people have done it already, but I want to have a space where we can throw our favourite games!

I made a collection of games I found interesting, and the (weird, bad-fan-art-guy-style) justification as to why they're there! Check it out here!:

We could do with a lot more positivity in the community right now, so if I HAD to pick only one (see what I did there?) favourite of the games I played, it'd have to be 1Boss1Battle1Button, by Bryce Bucher and Ayden Machajewski! I loved the music, I loved the gameplay, I loved the art style, I loved the integration of musical cues, I loved the boss' personality, I loved the player character personality... essentially, I'm actually not usually a big fan of boss fights or boss levels, but a game with more bosses designed like that? I'd play the hell out of that game. I could learn how to design boss fights better from that game, and I love a game that can teach me things.

So? What's your favourite? I want to hear it, and I still want to play it! Or, if you have a collection of several favourites, share that here too! Let's keep the game jam love going!

We've got a spreadsheet of the 100+ games we rated between the two of us, here are some of my favourites:

#106 - Naughty Knight: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/462613
A chess game where you control only one piece (the knight). Fantastic character design, clever puzzles, and pretty unique. I gave this one a perfect score.

#510 - Grapple: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/461560
A GameBoy styled metroidvania, with creative use of a single item for multiple purposes

#294 - Arrows Left: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/460349
Minimalist game where you need to plan your actions in advance because of limited movement ability

#540 - a game about a guy and his clones: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/463247
At first when I played this I found it very confusing, but once it clicked I was amazed by how genius it is. Came back after the ratings closed to complete it.

#1398 - Wrong Turn: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/463246
It's criminal that this game only got five ratings. So much polish, felt so good to play, and clever levels too. We both played this one and loved it.

#510 - One Screen Platformer: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/461360
A clever platformer where the level changes but still stays on only one screen. Great use of "only one light" as well as "only one screen".

#178 - Relyscraper: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/463560
Probably the best "only one platform" game I saw of everything I played. Super difficult though, got to the last level and couldn't beat it.

None of my favourites made it into the top 100! (sadface) But hopefully they can get a few more plays now, because they deserve it.

A lot of the games I played in this jam were fun so I will only mention my most favorite 3 games:

  • TowerBag was really amazing. It mixed 2 of my favorite genres in a nice way and the levels were easy but still challenging enough to not feel boring. The art is also so cute and lovable.
  • Einnsámr: The Lone Warrior is my favorite turn-based game in this jam. The game concept felt intuitive and the puzzles were nicely ramped from easy to challenging.
  • Sarah and the Lonely Key was really overwhelming at first sight since the whole game is one big puzzle. However, after struggling for a little bit to know what I should be doing, it felt really rewarding when everything fell into place.
