How does your game fit the theme?
The game is about trying to keep the situation as manageable as possible for as long as possible. It starts as a top down shooter that quickly evolves into a chaotic bullet hell of your own design. Be careful how you deal with your problems, sometimes the solution can create more problems until you lose control.

Did your team create the art for this game during the 48 hour time slot?

Yes

We created all art during the game jam

Did your team create the audio for this game during the 48 hour time slot?

No

I like that I had to work out if I wanted to play a target shooter or a bullet hell, that kind of control gets me going. 4 for fun :)

Developer (1 edit)

Or how quickly you want it to be a bullet hell XD Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it even half as much as I enjoyed yours :)

I liked the gameplay idea
Its like Toho meets the "Congratulations, you played yourself" meme
Also liked the theme about mental health :D

Developer(+1)

lol I hadn't seen that meme before and just looked it up XD  I'm glad you were able to appreciate it :)

The thoughts you use to get rid of a problem can also hurt you if you're not careful enough, marvelous idea and execution :D

I really liked your game! The mechanics worked well and when i read your piece about your solutions creating more problems that made the mechanic actually add to the atmosphere. Really cool! One thing i would suggest is that the enemies spawn and death animation seem to be the same, so i was confused if i was actually kiling them, or if they were telprting away. Great job guys!

Developer

Those animations were a last minute addition to make it more clear where enemies were going to be. Given more time I think you are right that different animations would definitely be an improvement. Thanks for your feedback and for playing!

Developer

In addition to that our artistic lead was actually wanting each enemy to explode staining the map with their color.  I'm not sure if we'll finish the game after the jam though to be honest. :/

glad to see another game on mental health !

love how the bullets can end up hitting you if you're not careful enough

good job!

Thanks! About half of our team immediately jumped to schizophrenia and emotionally out of control, however we couldn't think of a good game mechanic to pair with it directly.  Mis-information is hard to feel good :/ So we ran with it thematically :)  We really liked the idea that your bullets are kind of like your self defense mechanisms and how they can end up hurting yourself in the long run if you aren't careful. Anyway I'm glad to hear you liked the game :)

Yesss, I feel you on getting all those ideas. Glad ya feel that way, loved interpreting the game :D

Good art, smooth controls was very happy with both of those.   The concept was so deceptively simple and yet became amazingly complex.   The enemies nicely balance any abuses the player could put on the system.    I guess the big question is can you develop a Win condition for a level and have there be a full game.     Could also have multiplayer in this arena would be insanely fun (especially with a shove/block mechanic)

Developer

We did wanted to add more levels. Each level being a different shape rooms or with more objects for the bullets to bounce off of. Sadly we just didn't have enough time.

I made a separate download for the unity player so it worked for me but crashed after 2 mins. The graphics were fun and I liked the decent into bullet hell!

Developer

big sad that it crashed :/ but I'm glad you like it and were atleast able to see where we were going with it :)

big sad. :/ I just redown loaded the zip to double check and the UnityPlayer.dll was in it. I'd try unzipping one more time and running the .exe without moving any files. I hope That gets it working and you enjoy it :)  We actually had this issue when we first uploaded it because I only uploaded the .exe file and didn't reallize we needed all 7 files XD

The first of the games I've played this jam that really gets "out of control" without having bad controls. Nice Work!

A pretty simple idea on paper - essentially being bullets that don't despawn - but it definitely suits the theme after around thirty seconds of play time! Also, I love the art style. I'm a sucker for a hand-drawn look. Cool work! :D
