How does your submission match the theme?
The following mechanics are link to each other:
- Fighting enemies and gather gems leads to combos.
- Each level has a time limit. If the time runs out, a active combo saves the player.
- Number of gathered gems, maximum combo, time left and level completion affect the level score.

Great idea with combos keeping you alive! I had fun playing it, wish it was longer than 3 levels! You could add more sounds and with jumping you could try changing velocity in nonlinear way so it would feel better. Thank you for the article. I will take a look into it. I plan to make a better version of Sword Combo Rush and the article could be helpful.

I like the idea of forcing the player to hurry and take risks to earn gems=time. Fits the theme ^_^

 However, the player moves way too fast to land those jumps. 

 Add a drop shadow.

I'll try to add a drop shadow in a improved version and maybe I'll adjust the walking speed to make it a better game.
