Really great artwork! I like how inside the houses there is minimal colour but enough to set the atmosphere. Also liked the details like seeing the snow fall through the windows, have the snow stop in time and how the snow moves when you fly.
Two things I'd comment are that the game is a bit too easy (i had the feeling i could always just go in, drop presents and leave without needing Santa time) and too long (maybe the eighth hours out game duration could be shorter). Otherwise, really liked it!
Is there any chance you could make a linux export? I'd love to play!
Absolutely, thanks for the reminder! I didn't develop on either of them, so I want to do a quick check that the exports work and upload Linux and macOS versions soon. :)
Absolutely! And from my experience, although this may be less true if you're taking a chance on the 3.2.3 beta, the exports from vanilla Godot are almost guaranteed to work on the other desktop systems as long as the person downloads the right byte size install (32- or 64-bit). The only point where there's really issues is if you add some kind of module or feature outside of the core Godot Engine, in which case the export success is really all up to that specific module.
Also idk about Mac (I have the feeling it's the same because it's also Unix based), but Linux has very strict capitalization for files. So like I've collabed with Windows devs before where they have a folder called "Scenes" but in the code they're loading "res://scenes" which works for them but it breaks on Linux. I'm not sure if the export process fixes this, but if you ever have like... external files for your game outside of the .pck then it would be good to doublecheck your capitalization.
I trust it (it does appear to Just Work™), but I wanted to verify anyway before sending them out into the world! Oddly enough I did run into the case issue on another project I put together this week, but it was on Windows. It worked fine when run from inside the editor, but the exported version failed until I fixed the filename cases to be consistent.
The pixel art for this is amazing, both the sprite for Santa but especially the indoor areas look really cool. A lot of great subtlety. I managed to deliver 29 presents!
I think my only complaint is that there isn't a heck of a lot of variation so like... you do about three houses and that's all that the gameplay really evolves, but then the game goes on for 5-10 more minutes. I did want to see it to the end, but it would be nice if there were maybe a few other things to do. Also, while it is cute that Santa Time and Ho Ho Ho are bound to the S and H keys, at least for me that was very uncomfortable to try to keep my hand in that position. I have a feeling the Ho Ho Ho was maybe just a joke feature, and also a way to include voice acting, so maybe that was my fault :P
Overall a very cute game with some good Christmas vibes :3
