I loved the game story and art style. A great and simple story together with awesome classic paintings.

I would suggest to put in the corner of each art a small box with the names of the painter and the painting (maybe even the date). This could make the game also feel like a stroll through a museum.

The gameplay is a great concept but I feel it needs some usability tweaks. My suggestions are:

  • Make the current letter highlighted during the moment it can be pressed (with a bright color instead of being darkened with the rest of the word)
  • Maybe add some faint audio feedback or visual effect in the lyrics together with the key press since is very hard to look at the right panel while tracking what to press next.
  • If possible, make a difficulty curve controlling the amount of different keys needed for each song. The hardest parts are when you have too many different keys to press in a short succession (leave them to harder songs).
  • An alternative can also be to change from letters to colors and limit them to 4. This could make the game easily compatible with controllers.

thanks for playing and for the detailed feedback! They are all great suggestions, I'll definitely take them to heart. Some of the suggestions weren't in the game because there was not enough time, though others, like using colour instead of letters, because i didn't think about it :)

That was really fun.  The setting worked really well, and so did the music.  I managed to make it in time and with spare funds!

Though I like rhythm games, I'm not especially fond of rhythm games that use arbitrary letters on the keyboard.  Despite that, this was solid, played well, and had sufficient charm to really be enjoyable. :)

Thanks so much! Very glad you enjoyed it. And congrats on having money to spare :-D

Hi! I just tried your game out, the beggining was a little boring, at least to me it was too much history, I just wanted to play the game, when i got to it the game was fun, adrenalinic, I really liked the concept.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! You're right that the story could probably have been made shorter. I do repeat instructions a bit within the game itself as well. Will take that to heart next jam :)

What!!! I have no idea how you managed to make a game that looks so great in so little time! and it plays great too! This definitely looks and feels like a full game.

I wanted to let you know that it crashed on one of my playthroughs when going to the "Le Louvre", but was just one time and everything else on my experience ran perfectly.

Thanks a lot! I guess one of the time savers i use is taking almost all assets from public domain and cc so that there's more time for development. Though the midis did take a lot of the time.

And thanks for the bug report. Do you recall what happened when it crashed? Just crash to desktop or did it get stuck on a screen? Windows/Linux/mac? Thanks!

It crashed directly to desktop, and I was on windows (the 64 bits version)

Finally after a few more attempts, somehow won!

It's so funny because I don't really like rhythmn games, I've never really been good at them... but for some reason I love this game. This is absolutely perfect for this time of year, it has somewhat of a historical tinge and it's Christmassy without being too saccharine. The art you chose fits perfectly and the aesthetic and concept really comes together to feel like... well like an actual real game, not just a jam game. It has a good blend of rhythm elements, strategy, planning, and light visual novel elements.

If I had one complaint, and honestly I am scraping the very absolute bottom of the barrel... it would be nice if you could control everything with keyboard. There are like two times, the title screen and the location screen, that you need the mouse. It would be nice to just be able to keep my hands on the keyboard.

But that's really it. Honestly outstanding, 10/10, idk what does it for me in this game but it's absolutely lovely. I hope to see more from you in the future.

Congratulations and thank you for trying multiple times!

If you got a taste for it now, I made another rhythm game a few jams ago that is less christmassy but more funny: https://ereborn.itch.io/undercover-dancer

You are right about the mouse vs keyboard. I think what I should have done was make all the dialog and interaction mouse-controlled and only the rhythm part keyboard controlled. There is a bit too much of switching between modes now. Not sure about making it fully keyboard controlled though, personally I'd not like choosing locations on the map by keyboard I think.

I think a good compromise might be to at least give an option for keyboard controls at that part. I feel like for a lot of people it would be intuitive to use the mouse so you should still be able to do that, but if you had the left and right arrow keys (or even like tab) just cycle through the locations somehow that would be absolutely more than enough for me. Please keep in mind... I'm weird, and I'm also restraining myself from suggesting you add gamepad support since it would probably ruin the whole point of the game xD

I am absolutely going to be checking that out as well, and looking forward to what you make next~

Now this is a game!!  I loved it!  Made it with 25 minutes to spare a few francs :)  Really, this is very well thought out and put together!  Bravo!!  In fact, I can't think of anything it lacks for what it is!  Great presentation!

Thanks so much! And congratulations for making it back to London :-D

I don't like typing games so I hope my rating is more or less objective... Otherwise it's very nicely done! You made a wonderful use of the midi player in Godot!

Thanks a lot! Yes, it is hard not to be biased by personal preference in game styles so I understand it can be hard :)

thanks! Just wondering, was it difficult to play? Did you manage to get to the end in time?
