Hey, that's our logo!! That's so freaking cool!!
Theme: 2/5
I don't see how a space shooter has much to do with Hidden Within. I see how it's trying to with the end goal, but I don't think that's enough.
Design: 4/5
The tutorials are great although I did run into the wall the first time and totally missed the blurb about using the C key. I was like....wut? The space within to maneuver around is big enough that I feel like it's manageable but small enough that I still feel confined. Good use of space, and I like the menus.
Audio: 3/5
The sound effects are nice, but I didn't notice any actual music or other ambient noises.
Gameplay: 4/5
Wow, not being able to touch walls plus the combo of those rotation arrows make this balanced and just challenging enough to continue playing. I kept dying and was like, "No, I can do that."
Originality: 3.5/5
This is a really good take on things like The Impossible Game (so many hours from my phone poured into that) and games of that ilk.
P.S. Kudos for using 3.1!! :D
This was really fun. I got frustrated after the asteroid when the destructable walls were introduced, and then I figured out you can do a barrel roll with c! I think the tutorial missed this part. Anyway, before I figured this out, I thought I'd get clever an turn around exiting the level from the start... I love the easter egg I found.
Feedback for Android version:
Joystick: is too small compared to its sensitive response. I tried 20 times without falling to hit into walls :(
Physics:
- Most of the time I would hit into the thin wall after turning around at the arrow. I believe the problem is the velocity got reversed when everything is flipped upside down.
- Another problem is the velocity is not reset when I died leading to immediate crash after respawn.
Audio:
- The sound effects to me are pretty high pitched. Got startled when the first sound was played.
- I think immersion could be enhanced with the low humming sound of the engine moving through space.
Taking turns and forever going smaller? Getting deeper and deeper hidden within. Man it first I thought this was going to be a boring spaceship shooter but that moment the screen rotated I knew this was something I liked.
