The aesthetic of the game gave it a pleasant, yet amusing experience. Seeing the Mushrooms and their faces was fun. Having two modes is a nice addition. The random expansion of tiles did give the sense that your growth is somewhat uncontrollable. The UI was great. It felt smooth when clicking on a mushroom, as well as highlighting which tiles your mouse is currently hovering over. It was satisfying to interact with the game.
I had to devote some time into learning how to play the game as it was not very clear how the mechanics worked. I used Zen mode as a tutorial while reading the text provided in the itch page to figure out how to play. Not ideal, but it was doable. Once I understood, off to combat I went!
The combat was confusing at first. It took me a while to realize that I could use the poison mushrooms to attack.
For some reason a badger was stuck in the far left corner. I could not grow my mushroom.
The main drawback seems to be the lack of clarity concerning the game-play mechanics.
Once you know how to play, you get in the groove with the help of the upbeat music. But after a while it ended up turning into a "click + next turn" over and over until you win.
Overall, I enjoyed playing it after learning the rules. The upbeat music and the 3D models + mushroom faces did give it this likable tone to the overall game.
Like others said, neat game, but not very intuitive controls and gameplay, I wish the wall of text was replaced by a short "tutorial turn" or something similar. But anyway, great entry! Pretty good for a second Jam.
Glad I stuck it out. Was having a pretty difficult time at first. But! I ended up winning eventually lol. The system takes some getting used to. But once you have everything figure out, it's pretty fun! It did feel a bit long though. But overall? Was def fun; sounded good, looked adorable, and seemed to work as intended.
Thanks for sticking it out, I really should have more strongly encouraged new players try Zen Mode first to get the hang of the resource and expansion system in a low pressure environment. Once you know that it's not difficult to beat the AI but the first 1-2 games are confusing and the AI on top makes it too much.
Pretty cool game! I would have loved a small tutorial instead of a wall of text, but obviously that takes a lot of time. The graphics and game mechanics are both great!
Yes unfortunately I ran out of time at the end and had to make due with what I had. If I had one more day a tutorial would have been top priority, along with a fix for a few bugs haha. The wall of text was shoved in last minute so at least there is some kind of mechanic guide for now, sorry for that.
This is a really fun game! It fit the theme well and I like the art style and music a lot. The mechanics feel original and allow for a lot of strategy once you get the hang of it, nice job!
I am really happy to hear you liked the strategy aspect. I am a big fan of the genre and this is my first attempt to take it on myself.
Great job. Like the art style, the "facy mushrooms" are awesome :)
Thank you! The facey mushrooms are the work of Bulat96 who did a great job with the facial animations. Hooking up the facial animations in Godot was probably the most fun I have had yet in the Engine. I love your game btw, probably the most unique flappy birds clone I have seen yet.
The face idea was all yours and it was a great one :)
