Love the core mechanic!  I would love to play this again.  I can see why the balance in this one is tricky because if you make the torches any more effective than they are you run the risk of breaking the mechanic and it simply being too easy.  To fix this I would either increase the effectiveness of the torches and have lots of monsters. Or perhaps have the monster retreat and then attack in waves .   Maybe the villagers also have to save children that have run off from the village.  Anyway, love it please develop it further :)

Thanks for playing! We are glad you enjoyed it! You are correct, the balance was very tricky. We had trouble with the torches repelling being too strong, the village attraction being too strong, them being out of balance with each other, and a  problem where everything was balanced so perfectly the monster just stood still and the game play wasn't engaging! If we had time we would have tried out some non-physics solutions.

We would also like to try out some of the ideas you listed as well!

Thanks for the kind words!

Very cool game but way too hard! I feel like the torches don’t do anything to stop the monster, no matter how hard I try he just walks through my torch light and straight to the village, even with two villagers blocking him. I would love to see this game get a balance update to make the torches push the monster away more!

Thanks for playing our game! It is very difficult. If I were to remake it from the start I would probably not use physics to calculate the repelling and attraction of the monster. It was a nightmare to balance and definitely could use more fine tuning. The experience you detailed is one of the things I couldn't quite iron out to my liking. I also think the game is just too fast.

Thanks again for playing, we enjoyed your game too!

Challenging game! I included it in my compilation video series for the Godot Wild Jam #56, if you’d like to check it out. :)

Thanks for including us! It is more challenging than we intended, but it ended up working out since we didn't have time to create move levels XD

simple but cool concept :)

I didnt get to push the monster into the cage but at least keep it in the corner with the torch crate. It would be cool if it was easier to select a specific villager, and sometimes they get stuck replacing torches. But all in all its a pretty neat entry!
