Does it matter how long i've been working on my project?

I was just messing around in godot and I have a game i've been working on since 9/7/2018 (I didn't even know about the jam). Does it matter if I didn't start it at the right time or anything like that? Also, it doesn't have anything to do with the theme. Its currently on version 0.0.0.8. Its already up on itchio on my page if u wanna look its called bazinga blaster. I don't really care about the competition part of it per se, more of I just want some extra exposure for my game(plus it was made in godot, which i feel is highly on topic for this jam). (edit also, if i just submitted 0.0.0.8, it would have been worked on for 7 days (the length of the jam) just offset eariler.

Since you said it doesn't have anything to do with the theme, it probably wouldn't fit anyways. Quoting the Ludem Dare rules on using the theme:

To us, the Theme is just a single voting category. Ludum Dare is about encouraging you to make something. The theme is something we do to help everyone with the “blank sheet of paper” problem that artists and creators deal with. It’s easier to make something with some direction than none.

That said, it’s worth understanding that all voting categories in Ludum Dare are opinions; The opinions of your peers. So while we don’t enforce that your game meets some minimum “themeyness”, the community does see significance in the Theme. So while we wont do anything about it, the community as a whole prefers games that do use the Theme. So as a general suggestion, if you want to score well in Ludum Dare, make sure you do use the theme in some way.

Using the Theme in Ludum Dare is a Social Rule, not a Legal Rule.

It is fine to prefer games that do use the Theme, but don’t be a rude about. A game made in a weekend doesn’t always turn out the way you hope.

While I understand this isn't a Ludem Dare (and thus you might be required to use the theme), I'd say that their statement accurately sums up most, if not all, jams that utilize a theme; including this one.

That said, there are many other places that you can show off your work.

Jam Host

Hey Itchid, sorry about the late reply and thank you for asking! We've discussed this with the team and I also agree with the above quoted rule of Ludum Dare.

You're right that using Godot is bang on for the jam. We won't disallow you from posting your game here, we prefer a game that was made for the theme and for the jam as that is its main purpose, at the same time we want to keep it friendly and mellow a jam where people are encouraged to create, discuss, go wild and feel good.

Bottom line, there's still a lot of time left, if you're up to the challenge why not make a new game for the jam? ;)
