I absolutely love the graphics and music, and it feels nice to play; The small issues very much seem due to just it being a game jam game, like the very difficult jumps, some things being unclear or entirely unsaid (like the "press a to start") and the strange ending, but don't take these are very hard criticisms, it is still very good! <3
Really enjoyed the vibe of the lights out level. The random eyes opening and closing was a fun detail. I like that the levels are challenging yet you can get into a rhythm of it to learn and adjust till you get it. Would like to have some of the jumps, namely the first on the light level, tweaked to have it be a little tighter, but good job overall on first pass for the jam. Good job yall.
Controls are responsive and emulate the Gameboy style really well, as does the art. Once I figured out what the clock meant, the game became much easier! However, I feel like specific jumps are a little too punishing, especially with the insta-kill mechanics. Sound was nice, if a little repetitive at times.
Showing press A to start when it is not the button is not user friendly. The light level is really unfun and kills the whole game for me. The ending felt so unsatisfying I was very sad. <:-(
I know I already answered this for you, but I wanted to reply on here for anyone else experiencing the issue. The game is designed in a manner to suggest it's being run off an actual GameBoy, so the actual controls for keyboard differ. In this case, what the game refers to as the 'A' button is actually Spacebar. You can find the full list of controls on the game page.
Very Interesting Idea! I like the visuals, definitely feels GameBoy. I think the gameplay may be a bit too difficult at time, specifically the third level. The jump feels a little unresponsive for some of the jumps. The music can also feel a little repetitive but I still like it. The concept for the story is definitely my favorite part, I like the idea of the town getting more and more corrupt and destroyed as you go through it.
NOTE: If this game appears to crash, we encourage you to keep playing. Trust us.
