The typing mechanic was really well done! There is a lot more to this game than meets the eye.
I also got the same runtime error running in the browser, but overall a very fun game and very unique idea.
Kudos
I can tell you all spent a lot of time working on getting the type capturing working just right and it show. This functions so much better and I can see how you could expand this to allow players to put in their own words lists and set their own time limits.
I feel like this cycle it's a lot harder to initiate the steal as in the level where there are a bunch of people lined up i just jumped over them and spammed the 'E' button and hoped for the best as it isn't exactly clear how to sneak up on player. As a result I think that it may be more useful to give bonus points if you finish within the time limit instead of having it as a hard stop or giving way more time to compensate for the difficulty with starting the steal.
I also got the "RuntimeError: call_indirect to a null table entry (evaluating 'dynCall_iiii(index,a1,a2,a3)')" error in the first level when the timer ran out and I hadn't completed the level
I like that each level has a theme for the words that you need to type. It reduces the stress slightly and makes the typing sections more manageable. This is useful given that typing mistakes can occur due to the pressure from the time limit.
I did encounter a couple of issues:
1. I encountered a fatal error after completing the fountain level. This only occurs with the fountain level, and the other levels are fine.
2. The stage select and the hint screen also appears to be too zoomed in. Going into full screen mode does not help. Curiously, this is an issue when playing on larger monitors, whereas I can see more of the map when playing on a smaller screen when playing on a 15.6 inch screen than the 54 inch monitor.
3. I could stand on random non-visible platforms in parts of the levels. I would also occasionally collide into something when jumping, which was annoying when I was leaping at a human before comically stopping in mid-air.
I like the improvements to the stealing gameplay mechanic, namely that you need to initiate the steal whilst the human is unware of your presence. However, it wasn't too clear that the player would need to leave should the human spot you. nor how you should approach a human leading up to the steal. A tutorial level so that the player can see how the stealth and stealing aspect works in action would be helpful. The icons that were used to show the state of the humans was very useful in figuring this aspect out.
It's a short and fun game that can be polished up further.
The typing was really smooth. The transition to and from typing to platforming was very nice as well. It was a bit hard to know what I was supposed to be jumping on. Also based on the sound of that slide whistle (I'm gonna hear that thing in my dreams tonight for sure) it sounds like I was landing on platforms while I was ascending in my jump which was causing some weird collisions and sounds to happen. Overall though it was fun and straightforward concept.
Good job :)
The typing mechanic is implemented so well! And I really like the use of stealth, there's some more timing going on than just jumping and pressing E. I also think the timer length is perfect, I found myself thinking I had plenty of time left then glancing up there to see 15 seconds and rushing to type tomato. A lot of fun and I'm glad to see the progress that's been made!
Thanks again for the typing suggestion, it really was the missing piece for this game. Glad you enjoyed it! Still lots of cleaning up to do, but what a fun jam this was!
