(x/post) ConGumption Maker (or is it Lieutenant Dan's Incredible Machines?).  Nice puzzle game, a lot of content here!  Has a fair bit of control issues (misclicks, no way to speed up or fail and keep solution, banana is hard to see on white) but its strengths outshine that all.  There's a couple of nice touches and beats that hit well with me without overshadowing the rest of the game (ie, it's just goony enough).  Good fun!

Pros:

  • Very cool puzzle game
  • Built-in hints
  • Very good ending

Cons:

  • Some hints though funny are not helpful
  • Accidental pickup on zoom out / mouse wheel doesn't zoom out
  • Lack of speed-up button

Misc:

The first piggie level is pretty difficult, in a good way, and the hint is pretty helpful, but I didn't manage to get the "right" solution, I didn't use the chocolate. I ended up on the platform with the bomb just barely in front of piggie and it never caught me. First face level has a very good solution wrt trapping piggies. The bouncing ball level was pretty frustrating, though I'll admit it was probably my own fault that I didn't think of the solution rather than the game being malicious or anything. I've never played Lemmings or other puzzle games quite like this so it was fresh and interesting. My only complaints are that there's no fast-forward, which causes the game to get a bit tiresome when feeling out a solution, and that the standard zoom is far too close to be useful. Very nicely done.

Thanks for your feedback! I agree that the hints are not that useful (also all the other criticisms that erveryone has as well: standard zoom, no fast forward, no mouse wheel zoom etc.). Writing the hints was pretty much the last thing I did. And when I realized that I couldn't make them very helpful with the low resolution and limited space, it would have taken more time to remove them than to finish them as best as I could.

I'm not sure which one's the bouncing ball level. The last one?

That screenshot is hilarious - I didn't think that was possible. (In case you don't know: the solution for that level is to activate the blue blocks, use the banana under the first row (Forrest keeps sliding as long as there's a block above him) to barely outrun the pigs, then place a trampoline before the second row and then drop all piggies into the spikes.)

Run Forrest Run took me back to the DOS days. Controls very well and the aesthetic is top notch. Fun!

Ha! I was hoping people would see this as a sort of DOS-like experience... I can't say that I was going for that from the beginning - it just happened out of necessity (no artistic ability and no time to fix the clunky controls). Glad you enjoeyd it!

I like the concept, the way the different pieces interact give you interesting ways to arrange things. I like the art, like how Tom Hanks explodes apart into blood when he dies. Very fun.

That said, I am having trouble clicking to place stuff. I'm guessing I'm putting things down and then instantly picking them up again? Maybe the camera should should start zoomed out, it's basically a requirement for any level and having to click that button between tries is a little annoying. Speaking of trying again, I wish stuff stayed on the field between tries. Especially for the harder levels it seems like you only need to tweak locations, not the general concepts.  Lastly, I wish the rules were laid out a little better, like "makes you slip 4 blocks" for banana, it's hard to keep track of the quantities. And then when your guess is a little off, you have to replace eeevverryyyttthiinngg.

Cool concept and effort, though!

Thanks for playing. I agree with your criticisms 100%. It's mostly polish that would have been nice to add, but I'm glad I could get this out at all and relatively bugfree (I hope). With more time I probably would have spend it on designing levels, because things only started to come together in the last 1 1/2 days. But by then I had to quickly finish things up when I was just starting to get more interesting ideas.
