This is a really cool idea and it's implemented well. I got caught up trying to get over to the left near the top to... apparently get 2 coins and not the other half of the glasses. So, I never finished, but I feel like I won for getting those two coins. Hope he finds his pants!
Really fun gameplay concept with a premise/framing that made me chuckle. Manual control of the "lens" while moving was a great dexterity challenge. From a design standpoint, I found myself feeling like the punishments became somewhat arbitrary.
One way around this might be to start leaving "hints" for the player to begin to try and guess what the obscured hazards might be... Which will give you something else to subvert down the line as well.
Overall, nice! And a haunting walk cycle.
Thanks for the feedback! Adding hints would be a good idea. I can think of at least one instance where death is completely unfair
I liked the concept of things being constantly obscured! The jump was a little strange and kept throwing me off (literally). The fact that your input can change your jump in mid air but also no input doesn't change the jump trajectory at all felt confusing
Amazing concept. It was great to see the details of the world when focusing in on a certain point. Really made me feel like I was a (buff) grandpa that needed visual aids. Traps and obstacles seemed to be placed with care such that one wouldn't be spending an hour to perfect a couple jumps to then be defeated by the next jump and have to spend another hour getting that next one down. The checkpoints were well placed such that I never felt like I was spending more time getting back to the obstacle than getting past the obstacle itself.
The story also matches the awesome art style. If only I could look as great as gramps without pants.
