- Music - Good energy. Bassoons make everything more playful. This instrumentation is definitely reminiscent of Beware the Forest Mushrooms. I think there is a good sense of suspense here, but still has motion. You might consider dropping the xylophone in the middle, so when it returns around 1:45 it's more effective? I appreciate that you are using an orchestral palette without it falling into cliches. Large performing forces, but lighter textures. This does stay at a similar energy level throughout (as in, the middle section feels a bit similar to the outer sections), but the individual moments work well together. From a zoomed out perspective, maybe make that middle section feel a bit different energy-wise, so the return is that much more impactful. SFX - SFX all work really well on their own! A bit in the Unit Lost and especially the Spellcasting - they feel electronic and a bit "70's computer" sounding (which I dig), but that with the music maybe doesn't gel as much. The playful acoustic instruments and the hyper-digital spell casting don't feel to me that they are in the same world. Maybe move the SFX a little closer to the analog world, or add a more digital instrument in the music? Something to bridge the two. Of course, this was done in a weekend, for a game that doesn't exist, so in context it could totally feel different. Thanks!
- The main theme gave me Nightmare Before Christmas vibes, which does feel on brand with the GDD. Maybe a little too close, I'd adjust it slightly to separate it from that immediate connection, but if the game is meant to be inspired by such a fantastic movie then it hits the mark. The heavy stepping did not work for me, or was too quiet I couldn't tell, so I can't judge that clip. The other SFX were fun! Spellcast did feel like being sprinkled with magic dust.

I like the second half. It's playful and kind of reminds me of The Nightmare Before Christmas. The first half was way too quiet though--I had trouble hearing it!
I love the music! Super Disney vibes (like Philharmonic/Fantasia mixed with Nightmare Before Christmas). The xylophone was perfect for the image you are crafting, and the high woodwind on top was a great touch. I am worried that one spot sounds a little bit too much like "this is Halloween;" maybe you could take a single beat out of it or modulate a bit? You do not want the listener to accidentally get a song other than yours stuck in their head, haha.
The SFX are fun too! The Heavy Stepping truly sounds like a stomp, but almost as if on marble floors. Perhaps too echoey for your proposed swamp feel? The Unit Lost sound almost sounds like a blaster and would sure scare me as a player if I heard it, so great for indicating a defeated unit! The spellcasting is full of whimsy, makes me think of little fairies, hehe.
Great work on this!!!
I like the music's whimsy, and I think it was well executed, but my mind was just filling in the lyrics "This is Halloween! This is Halloween! halloween halloween halloween".
I would use the spell casting for the hero opponents, but not the necromancer.
I love the song! A little too goofy for my taste, but good nonetheless. Reminds me of a Rare game from the 90s like Banjo-kazooie.
The spellcasting sounds like a healing sound effect. The heavy step could use a little more low end (to make it sound deeper), and finally, I feel like the unit lost sound effect didn't need that much reverb.
Overall this is a solid submission. Great work.
Thank you so much! The feedback you gave me is much appreciated and I'm taking it on board to up my sound game. ^_^
Glad I could help! You can reach out to me on discord and I could give you some pointers if you'd like.
