Judge feedback

Judge feedback is anonymous and shown in a random order.

  • Music - Good energy and propulsion, the interaction between the cello/bass and the harpsichord is nice, and leans it more toward a horror vibe. Sort of a Tales From the Crypt feeling. I think the GM nature of the sounds actually works quite well, but I'd like a little more nuance to the "performance" if that makes sense? SFX - Skeleton building works well, is noticeable enough to matter but not so much that doing it a bunch gets tiresome to the ears The Click sound is interesting - is this UI click? Or "send creatures" click (I'm assuming this one. I like that it sounds like a general array of sounds, but you get a bit of clarity at the end and can understand. Reminds me of Dungeon Keeper commands a bit. Nice!
  • Only two SFX but that's ok! I liked the click sound, I can see how it would be used to deploy troops. I had a little hard time hearing the skeleton though but I think it was just my headphones. The music has a nice ominous tone.

A real villainy-sounding theme, definitely makes me feel devious.

Developer(+1)

Haha, thank you so much!

Not me realizing just now that the requirement was three SFX and a music track and not two. D: Sorry almighty IGA gods.

I like the building SFX.

I think the "Yes Master" SFX is too hard on the ears, and would become taxing to listen if it came up a lot in the game, but if it was only once or twice. Maybe it would be a little less grating with a subtle low-pass filter

Your music has a good vibe and feeling to it. Good instrument selection. Maybe it sounds a little lonely for a game with a horde?

Thank you so much for the feedback!! :D I will be sure to look into the low-pass filter.

This entry was super creative! I really loved the composition of the music, the way each instrument interacted with each other was amazing! The production could have been a bit better overall, however the music itself had a lot of great ideas! The sound effects were really fun as well, and really showed a good understanding of the prompt. The difference in volume between the sounds was quite extreme, with the "Yes, Master" sound much louder than the skeleton building sound. Overall very nice and I think you have a great future ahead of you in the sound world!

Thank you so much for your feedback!! :D And I know right? The volume differences are so extreme, though I was unsure how to adjust it. (First time working with a sound mixer, haha.) Would you have any suggestions for the future?

My thoughts --

  • Talking about the music, this was well written on a musical standpoint, the dissonance was just on point. It was minimalist, which was okay, but the sounds grated on me.
    •  The frequencies of the harpsichord caused me to recoil when it was first introduced (something which might have been sorted in mixing), and since it was a short loop, I could only imagine that this short loop would repeat multiple times.
    • I think this was a sound idea, but it could have done with more expansion and variation, especially if playing this on loop on a (presumably) long RTS level.
  • The crunch of the skeleton building itself was perfect. :O It had that spine-tingling crunch about it. Well done.
  • The "Yes, Master" line was a great choice of line.
    • I feel it could have done with more distortion for that otherworldly sound, but, having said that:
    • I loved that you used different inflections and tones for the same line to make it sound like different people speaking at once. That was brilliant.

Well done, and all the very best!

Thank you for the feedback!! :D
