Tried this out a bit but not really my thing. I tried the first...boss? On the ship, go a couple game overs and got sick and left.

My input, though keep in mind shooters are absolutely not my genre, this is just my own opinions:

  • Reloading takes too long and doesn't have a solid tell on when it's "done".
  • Missing was never really an issue for me, it was just the slow speed of the reloading :T There's no way (that I can tell) to hide or evade damage so I had nothing to do meanwhile.
  • The text overall needs a second past, it can come across as a bit awkward.
  • Considering the screen is wide and your textbox goes all the way across, the text only occupies like half, or even 1/3 of it most of the time. It makes it look really empty and awkward.
  • The "challenge" went from "brain dead shoot the things" to "ok now juggle loading this stupid slow gun" real quick.

Yeah, not for me. I have no idea of how difficult a shooter would be to implement on MZ, so I'm not knocking down the effort here, but it just was hard to enjoy, for my taste.

Thats a fair review, thanks! The history and the stages were kind of cut short because 70% of my time was bug fixing and didn't take much time performing polish.  The game itself is very short thanks to that too.

I created this Jam entry like my last one last year without using plugins. Using Pixi texts instead of using a simple show text for a better layout position is a little time consuming but I will take notes to pay more attetion to that and with the points you made.

Thanks again for playing it.

Cool concept of making a shooting game with rpg maker! Would be cool if there is some sort of gun shot effect when you click similar to those arcade shooting games to give the player more feedback of shooting a gun. Othewise, good job!

Developer

That's a nice effect to add but when I was creating the events I thought that those shot target effect in those old games were mainly necessary because there was no crosshair and they were a lightgun game. It is a valid point to add here in the future. Thanks!

Developer

Another point that I didn't add those effect because the earlier idea for this game was to create a weapon pick up system with a Machine gun and a Shotgun. I thought I would have problems swithing those arround and lag ruining the gameplay.

Super neat project -- especially done in RM! I love that you have opportunities for customizing the color / style of the crosshair and found the reload mechanic to provide just enough of a challenge. Excellent work!

Developer

Thanks a lot! Glad you liked this little feature and enjoyed the reload challenge.

This was neat, I am glad I was offered more health and bullets after failing a couple of times on the first go. Reminded me of some of the old arcade classics I played growing up. The title card art is fire.

Thanks! I assumed not everyone would finish in one or two lives so I added those upgrades for a better experience. Hope you finished and liked it.

I got to the end. Good variation on each level :)

great design for Death! and I'm a sucker for retro style shooting games. Was actually quite challenging and kept forgetting to reload haha

Developer

Thanks! This was a really rushed project that so many parts of it had to be cut off. This game was made inspirated with the gameplay of Lethal Enforcers 2 for Arcade/Mega Drive/Snes but we couldn't make it on time for te JAM with all the enemies sprites.
