This game was fun to play. I definitely felt a sense of urgency as the game picked up speed. In terms of things that could be implemented, I was thinking for later on in the game, enemies could be spawned in that either shoot at you or try to melee you. The portals worked as intended, but there were a few occasions where I would click out of bounds by mistake, but that is just something you get used to with more time playing the game. I've played the portal games in the past so I had a good understanding of the concepts presented. The portals themselves were presented fine in my opinion. Regarding aspects of the game that need more work or need improvement, there are not any that come to mind.
Hey Josh! I think this is a really fantastic prototype. It really takes me back to playing Portal Flash version. One gripe I have with Portal in general is that I think the portal-able surfaces need to be more distinct, and I think that applies to this game too. You did a pretty good job, I just think it could stand out a little more to let the player know what isn't portal-able. Adding more types of levels as well as portal mechanics such as portal jumping would really enhance the game. Also the music was dope.
This game is a lot of fun. As a fan of portal 1 & 2, I love the concept. An endless runner where you have to spawn portals in order to not die. I think what I love most is the fact that in Portal, you have to be methodical with your portals in order to solve puzzles. In this game however, I am spamming portals with urgency in order to stay alive. It's the same mechanic implemented in an entirely new way. I think that's really cool. Good work!
I didn't run into any bugs with the portals they most worked as intended. I am playing on mousepad so I kind of wish there was an alternate control scheme other than using left and right click. That's a minor complaint though. Once this game is on Steam, Xbox, and Playstation and has full controller support that won't be an issue.
I wasn't confused by any of the concepts but I also played the portal games so I went in with that knowledge. I think even if I hadn't I would've been able to pick up on it.
That being said, If you made the level start out slower I think it would give the player more time to learn. I feel like there's not a whole lot of time to catch your breath when the game starts.
I would say to add visual elements to your level, but I think that might be kind of distracting. I actually like the plain gray level because it keeps the focus where it should be and its easy to see your portals.
This is an awesome game Josh and I really love the unique mechanic of having to get through obstacles with portals. I think the infinite aspect of the game makes a lot of sense and the camera speeding up was a great touch. The sound is also great and I loved the death screen. There's a few bugs like the portals going to the wrong spot but that's understandable given that this is a prototype. I think a store where you could buy upgrades and variance in the levels would add a lot to this. Hope to see more!
