What are custom scenarios?

Custom scenarios are user-created maps or campaigns that offer new gameplay experiences beyond the standard game. They can range from simple skirmishes to elaborate story-driven adventures.

Do I need any special software to create or play custom scenarios?

No additional software is needed. Age of Mythology Retold includes a built-in Scenario Editor for creating custom content. To play custom scenarios, you simply need to place the scenario files in the correct folder.

To open the Editor, in main menu click on the menu icon on top right (three lines) and click on Editor.

How do I make in game campaign?

You can use this template and then modify it to your liking!

Can I see how campaign in game was made?

Yes! This is a great learning source. In the Editor go to File -> Load Scenario and check "Load In-Game Asset Scenarios".

All the base campaigns are in:

FOTT -> Fall of the Trident (Arcantos)

TNA -> The New Atlantis (Kastor)

TGG -> The Golden Gift (Brokk and Eitri)

Playing Custom Scenarios

How do I install and play a custom scenario?

1. Download the custom scenario file or folder containing these (.mythscn format).
2. Locate your Age of Mythology game directory.
   • Default Path:  C:\Users\USERNAME\Games\Age of Mythology Retold\76561198012301128\scenario
3. Copy and Paste the downloaded .mythscm file into the scenario folder (you can also paste a whole folder).
4. Launch Age of Mythology Retold.
5. Open Skirmish -> Top left Choose Game Type to be Custom Scenario
6. Find your custom scenario, set it's difficulty and hit Play

How do I install and play a custom mod?

1. Download the mod as a zip
2. Unzip contents into 
- C:\Users\USERNAME\Games\Age of Mythology Retold\76561198012301128\mods\local
- It should look like ....mods\local\mod_name\game\campaign......

3. Hopefully it works!

Can I play custom scenarios with friends?

A: Yes! For multiplayer custom scenarios:

1. Ensure all players have the same version of the scenario file.
2. Place the scenario file in each player's scenario folder.
3. Host a multiplayer game and select the custom scenario.

What are some good tutorials online

You can find many resources online. I will try to update this to add some tutorials on YouTube.

You can use most of the stuff from the old AOM that exist. The scenario builder is 90-100% the same in Retold.
