I'm very surprised to see this level of polish in a game jam submission. The inclusion of an animated menu and cutscenes is incredible; this shows a very high attention to detail. The art style of the game was one of its strongest assets.
The message that is presented at the end, showing how much plastic needs to be cleaned up in the oceans, was another surprise. I don't typically see messages such as this being presented in game jams, so well done on taking this extra step to making this game relevant beyond Jamfuser.
I enjoyed the gameplay of Norbit, but at times found the controls to be a little finicky. The precision required to spear trash and to shoot the trash onto Barry's boat made it feel that I was being overwhelmed by the controls rather than the amount of trash being thrown into the ocean. Certain items of trash such as the bicycle wheel also had a tendency to block my view when aiming down my horn, which I feel could be fixed by making speared trash transparent when aiming down my horn.
That being said, those niche criticisms show that the other aspects of the game are very strong. There isn't all the time in the world to polish your game in a game jam, so very well done in getting Norbit to as high a standard as this in just a weekend.Very nice. The colliders on the junk need to be a bit bigger and I think there needs to be a little bit more happening, but over all a nice game well made and structured and all functioning (once I figure out the controls)
This is a wonderful, upbeat addition to the jam. The introduction at the beginning was charming, well thought through and clearly received a lot of love from the team. The environment we play in is beautiful and relaxing, while the voice acting adds an element of comedy. The primary issue I suffered with were the controls, I found them very difficult to manage, I don't think this would have been as big an issue if the hit boxes on the rubbish were a bit bigger to they were easier to grab. Overall though, a beautiful game with wonderful narrative and only some tweaks needed in the gameplay to really develop it's potential.
