Do audio generators count as original?

Obviously, websites like BeepBox.co count as you are actually making the audio, just with an easy UI; however, do audio effect generators (such as sfxr) count as making your own assets? Does that rule really just mean "don't use other peoples' stuff"? This is my first game jam (and game!), so thank you for this amazing opportunity!

Side note: does adding dependencies (such as Rendercam for the Defold engine) for non-integral mechanics break the Originality rule?

I would say the goal is to learn a new skill or expand on one. As long as you recorded it and isn’t copyrighted work then it is your work. To my knowledge If you would like to use “plug ins / add on” stuff you didn’t make, just give the proper credit. Some people will be working from scratch and for lots like you it will be the first jam.

If you feel you can only do one skill for now, you can join a team. Everyone is welcome we have our own team finder board on discord.

I would say it would break the Originality rule. but you can choose to opt out of that category, to not vote against you.

Thank you for clarifying! I guessed as much, but it never hurts to be sure.
